Started experiencing problems pumping gas maybe two weeks ago. I had traveled maybe 250 miles, and then was only able to pump 7 gallons before the pump shut off. The problem continued, and after driving about 50 miles the other day I'm only able to pump 1/3 of a gallon and gas leaked out afterwards. Had read through the threads of similar problems being described mentioning a "charcoal canister valve", but couldn't come across a real picture of it or part number. Had talked to peachparts and it didn't sound like they were quite sure which part it was.

I ordered A 202 470 07 89, numbered #3, which I believed to be the charcoal canister valve, but it is listed as an expansion tank on the free online epc. I swapped that out and the problem still continues just the same, 1/3 of a gallon before shutting off, then gas comes out of small cracks at base of hose in #2. I bypassed #3 "expansion tank/canister valve?" completely and slowly (with a hand pump) put gas directly into #1 in the picture and the gas began to seeping out of #2 just the same. Would the possible air leakage in #2 be the cause of my problem of not being able to pump the gas ? Also does #1 go directly into the gas tank, as I'm wondering what else could be causing the backup?

Any light that can be shed on this would be much appreciated, whether there's something else I should be looking at, or if the charcoal canister valve is something else?, Thanks for the help, and if you are in my neck of the woods sometime, the beers are on me haha

Should also mention its a 97 C280, and i've tried pumping the gas slowly, changing angles, depths of nozzle, turning the nozzle one way or the other, and upside down.

hi their is a breather pipe on the fuel system if blocked it will not release pressure and fuel will not go in

i would start with that

I actually have this problem too. When I
Pump gas, it leaks. Only as I'm pumpin tho. Not driving or idling or parked. Just while pumping. Not a big deal besides the big puddle of gass I leave at the gas station and the wasted cash I spend on gas. Dammit!! So anywho. Did you figure out what the problem was? I haver tackled it yet
