Stole this idea from benzworld. It's a pretty good way of keeping traffic up in the repairs thread. I believe the repairs section is the most important forum we have.
I'll start.
Replaced idler pulley, tightened belt, and finally replaced front right shock. It's a major pain in the ass with how hard it is to reach the top nuts.
Isolated oil leak and transmission leak. Both were at the cooler lines on the radiator. I'd left them too loose after the belt tensioner replacement job.
Still need to track down AC leak and figure out why it sometimes blows scalding hot air when in stop and go city traffic on HOT days. Still need to completely flush transmission and change filter. Need headliner and new radio amplifier... Amps in these things are not easy to replace.

Are you talking about the stock amp?

Are you talking about the stock amp?
Yep. Front channels have completely died. Only rear door speakers sometimes work, sometimes they fizzle out to nothing.

I have a slow coolant leak coming from the radiator drain plug. I'll let it be for now since I only drive it 4 miles a day. I suspect it's the rubber o-ring.

You have a C36. I would MURDER for a C36! The ultimate M104 car!
Why the new manifolds? Did you upgrade or replace with new OEM?
Does replacing your cats make any difference? I know cats eventually die, but what is the benefit in replacing them?

Supposedly, there are high flow cats out there. Do they really flow high? Beats me. I've gotten mixed responses with one coming from a muffler shop that does racing on the side.
Maybe lighter, or cat removal if you are running more than one.

the c36 has 180.000 miles on her so just stock new exhaust system why change what works ( sunday car )
the c240 v6 sport (c43 replica) had a maf go on it and dumped a lot of fuel in exhaust and burned out cats and cracked inner lining on manifolds (every day runner )
the benefits reduced emissions and also you notice the exhaust gets hotter as it working at it best
c36 's are selling from 1,500 to 5,000 euro at he moment in europe , their is a c43 the most expensive one i know supercharged c43 OME engine , up at 10,000 euro ,link to c43

I'm starting to wonder of all teh things I could start replacing to breath some life back into my 1994 C280 with 250k miles. The engine still purrs like a kitten, but just doesn't have the same thrust it used to have. I know it needs timing chain and EGR, but I can't think of anything else. I just hope it's not lost compression...
I found a C43 for sale locally for $5,500. It has 230k miles on it though. Yikes.

Had my C43 checked by my mech last weekend says he cant find no issues with the car if you paid him, all it needed was a new steering shock dampner (which made so much difference) and a rubber hanger in the back for the exhaust. Very happy!!!

I can't remember when I did the brake fluid flush prior to this but it may have been around 50k miles ago.
Coolant flush was done end of 2009 prior.

Should I post all the things I have accomplished thus far on the never ending project?
Lets see.
New rear rotors, calipers, pads, and e-brake.
New transmission.
New flex joints.
New audio. Nothing fancy, just removed the Bose amp, and 5 pounds of unneeded wiring. Removed the rear door speakers, and replaced the rear shelf and front door speakers.
New steering link.
New drag link bushing.
New steering damper.
New rear LCA bushings. I used the ADUS 597, and modified the LCA and bushing to allow greasing with a fitting.
New SLK32/Crossfire SRT front rotors.
New SLK32/Crossfire SRT front calipers.
Goodridge stainless brake lines.
Forgot:
Mechanical oil pressure gauge. Pics later.
New Vogtland springs.
New Bilstein shocks.
New floormats. The originals were toast.

I havnt done shit to my 2k 230 sport komp. its turning into a beater. its dented to hell! seriously its turned into a ghetto benz. and its kind of embarrasing driving it on a nice summer so cal day.
my last repair was a costly Shift level modual. It is said to blow out if you spill a drink in your shift lever area, which I had done MANY years ago and it locked my car in park, I violently shifted the car from Park to drive and broke that thing that stops u from doing this and it was fine ever since! My car had serious transmission problems and I was scared to crap like a cry baby (a blown auto transmission will do this to any man!) it was stuck in 1st gear! perhaps limp mode.
prevously to this problem, I was drifting my car in the rain getting the car completly vertical. I think rain had splashed up into the shift lever mechanism or possibly i forgot my sunroof in the vent position.
had to take the car to the Dealer to get checked by the star diagnosis machine. I was out of options. but to justify the expensive of having the star system check I had the stop brake light switched by dealer, which could also cause the car to be stuck in 1st gear. I got in a fight with the service rep just because i wanted to.
anyways, dealer told me shift lever was 1k to buy and install. I found one online for 500bux , and btw most places didnt want to sell me one w\o VIN verification and you have to do this in person to show proof of over ship. the first place I bought from couldnt contact me to tell me they couldnt ship , I didnt want to give out my phone number at time of purchase. this caused 3 weeks delay of no car. called around again and this place sold to me as is in genuine MB parts box 500$.
picked my car up from dealer, drove it down the street in 1st gear 6000rpm one block away in a parking lot and fixed the lever in 5min with 4 of those allen lock out bolts.
everything that has broke on my car was from me fuckin around with shit, I have a big list. if I was a normal person, this car would have had no problems besides normal wear and tear.

Back again after i posted a new thread on starting issues. Short and sweet. I had to seperately ground all 3 coils well linked them all to the block, for a good ground. Now the booger startes great. Will be buying a water pump soon the rebuilt one i got the bearings are already shot. Next on the list is the drag linkage. The outer ends have a little bit to much play for me. Since June '11 of owning my 202? Replaced a heavily leaking valve cover gasket, replaced rear brake rotors, replaced all brake pads with ceramic ones, got factory keyless entry system working (was inoperable at purchase, expensive fix there along with-dealer only flip key), replaced destroyed driver door lock from prior theft, replaced corner markers twice....once because some ******* yanked one out in the Walmart parking lot while I was in the store, second time because the passenger side one flew off at 120 mph-ish speed.
Things needing replaced still: Car is burning through about a quart of oil each month. When I park it sometimes there's burnt oil smoke coming from the lower part of the engine, I think it's coming from the oil pan gasket. EGR needs replaced, severe rattling from an exhaust part at speeds under 5mph or when idling parked (despite stock exhaust being completely removed for custom one), gas gauge occasionally goes on strike and doesn't read the right fuel level....then magically works again, pretty much the whole front end of my car thanks to recent accident by my mother backing into my 202....ugh!
2 fixes I NEED to do but can't figure out where they're coming from: some sort of occasional buzzing sound coming from the front interior dome lights, some kind of incredibly annoying squeak keeps coming from the back seat when I hit a bump, a rough road or a pothole. If I could fix that one, I think my life span will be increased by about 20 years because that damn squeak annoys the hell out of me on long trips....

Fire the car up and stand behind the rear bumper. If you hear that buzzing noise that's going to be your fuel pump. Also, jack the rear end up and look for leaking shocks and cracked springs.

Finally pulled out the wiring for the front brake pad sensors. The housings don't work with my C36 caliper upgrade and they had to be zip tied up. At least now I can get to work splicing the C36 caliper harness I got from a donor caliper so I can get the light operational once again. Also changed the oil while I was at it.

I just bought a 2000 C280 Sport the other day (16 Feb 2013) and I only have added a new hood ornament onto it (the day I bought it).
I am awaiting to have the vehicle inspected. It runs fast, which I really like, but it accelerates unrealistically. The gas mileage is not as good as my other C280 and I think it may have been chip tuned. A problem with the speedometer gives me reason to believe the car was taken well above 260km/h. The cup holder is broken too, of course... and it makes an odd sound when turning left while going over 25km/h.
Other than that, my 1998 C280 Elegance that I have owned for two and a half years has had thousands of dollars of work done on it as I have owned it. The previous owner did much as well like new front window and repaired rack & pinion. Since I bought it, the repairs of the past about 6 or 7 months include:
-Transmission repairs
-New pan & gasket
-Hoses
-Fluid change & new filter
-Electrical plug
-Engine
-New oil filter housing
-New MAF after previous (Valvoline) air filter was partly eaten from not allowing enough air at 216 KM/H. Now it has a real air filter in it.
-Exterior
-New hood ornament
About to purchase:
-New tires in a few thousand miles. I bought the ones on it new brand new (V speed rated) and they lasted me only a year of ‘my’ driving.
-Repair rims or buy new OEM rims of some sort.
-$1400 (before tax) welding job to make car driveable again; the passenger side front spring perch broke off. It’s apparently a somewhat common problem other Mercedes drivers have had.
This is just the recent repairs…in the past months, and what I need to do next. Earlier repairs were things like tires, multiple & suspicious gas leaks, brakes, tune up, and fuel pump.
It's expensive to own a Mercedes Benz, but if I (or others) went with cheaper cars: I would be spending more money on blown engines, more cheap cars after driving them to the death, collapsed suspensions, 3,000 mile oil changes about once every month or so, and I could have been killed from performance driving in something unreliable. Mercedes Benz is the way to go, you know.
This list would not have been worth sharing if I didn't drive so much, and that when I did drive that it was slower.

My 1998 C280 had the rattling exhaust part last year (maybe the same problem you described). One garage told me it would be about $600 to fix as they lied to me about the job requiring a new pipe and what not. I went to some little garage with a good reputation and the person looked at it and told me it was the hanger for the pipe that rusted and was causing the rattle. He told me the pipe should not be changed since its stainless steel good Mercedes Benz quality- long story short - he was able to weld it back on using some scrap metal he had. Only $178 was the bill and it worked great.
I don't remember if you had any exhaust mods done, but if you have not already then now may be the time to do it if you need to get it fixed. Check to see if its your hanger near the catalytic converter. Don't settle to pay more than $180 for the repair if its the problem. Good luck man.
To increase your life span, like I did for myself by staying away from by ex-girlfriend and her cruel friends, check to see if your C280 has the opening from the trunk to the passenger compartment. In the trunk there may be two latches (from what I remember) that release the back seat's vertical piece for more space (or at least the center piece). Maybe something is lose over there? Also check the two head-rests that fold, maybe they are lose? And the health kit in the compartment between the two head-rests rattles in my car sometimes, so check that too. I hope you solve it soon man, that must be so annoying to listen too.
