i am thinking about trying to save some weight on my 202 and the obvious ones are spare wheel, tools, lighter battery etc but what about the engine viscous fan, can i remove it and rely on the two small electric fans only?

That's a very bad idea. Other places you can loose weight is lighter wheels, and lighter bucket seats. That will make it less comfortable though. You could probably make a noticeable difference in the car with some sparco or recaros. You can easily lose over 100lbs with different seats.

Get rid of your spare tire. I read that from some other thread. And yes, lighter rims.

I was talking to someone about doing the same thing, and even though it would make your car lighter IN THE EVENT something unexpected was to occur, the manufacturer hood is actually a safety mechanism in the way its designed. Same goes for BMW's. Just my 2 cents.

carbon fiber body panels would be expensive and not a good value. I would do it for a track car with a large budget. Not a street car. Stripping the interior is the cheapest and most effective way to save weight. But it's very easy to make a car difficult to live with. All of that carpeting and sound deadening and those comfy seats go a long way into making a benz a benz. Take it away and you are getting into race car levels of refinement. Also filling your tires with nitrogen and not air is a good way to save weight easily. Around here a lot of places do it now. You wouldn't think it, but unsprung weight is a big deal and going to nitrogen actually saves a few mpg.

lol, just letting him know what he is getting in to. I wouldn't call sound deadening luxury, just something necessary in a road car. There is a tradeoff here between performance and driveability.
