View Full Version : Is there a bolt on short air intake for W202s? Specifically 2000 C230?

I don't want cold air intake, and I don't really feel like making one myself. I can't find one premade for the car, so I was wondering if anyone knew of one, or knows one that will fit for our car. Any advice is appreciated!

I fabbed up a heat shield around the intakes to keep heat out. It does work wonder! Loud as hell though... especially in the morning warm up.

Only problem you might have is finding a piece for your throttle intake. I had to manipulate one from Autozone.

Also, you probably wont find a bolt on intake for Mercedes in general, unless there is someone who custom makes and ships them. But i doubt it.

What exact things did you buy to do this?

Yujin

You can get all this stuff at Pep boys or autozone...

1 Coupler (The blue thing)
1 intake tube (Mine was Spectre)
2 Cone filters of your choice (make sure they fit 3'')
1 Spectre intake duct (Make sure its metal)(3'') ****NOTE: You will have to manipulate it so you can bolt on the throttle from the air box with a drill. Make sure you have Epoxy to cover any holes (it wont be perfect but it will work if you do it correctly, a friend did it for me.)
1 Spectre/Stainless steel clamp-on cotton fiber oil breather element (For the EGR tube, the small tube. You may need a clamp if you dont have one.)

My friend fabricated a heat shield. I recommend attempting to do the same so you aren't sucking up hot air.

Hope this helps you out, you are looking at around 50$ w/o the heat shield fabricated. If you need help, lemme know, Ill try n get a video made for you tomorrow.

having the recirculate on it's own like that doesn't make the car behave odd does it?

Yujin
07-20-2011, 07:42 PM
I bought a cotton fiber oil breather element for it. This is the picture before it. So now there is 3 filters. Throws alot of people off lol. But as long as I had it like that, there was no issue I noticed. Big difference is the throttle response. And it feels more 'free'. Idk how to explain it.

Worse heatwave ever, so I kind of slurred my words and my tourrettes acts up :P (jk about the tourrettes) Anyways, hope you guys enjoy, view the video's in order. Any questions, ask meh.

This video is for KompressorInc, that was what I meant to say Lol.

I love how the recirculator makes a bov sound now.

Yujin

BOV? What's that? :X

Blow Out Valve?

Blow Out Valve?
blow off valve... The diverter valve would normally recirculate boost pressure back into the air box (where it is unheard on stock set ups). the valve opens when off throttle to release boost pressure from the system, it closes to create boost when the supercharger is engaged. had a similar set up on my car. except I had a complete custom supercharger inlet that I had made and ran 3" intake pipe from the cone filter to the supercharger. sounded dirty!

Blow Out Valve?

Blow off valve, you seem em on turbo cars all the time bust almost never on supercharged cars. The recirculator serves a similar purpose but in the stock airbox it sends the excess air back into the intake. With this custom air intake it basically is a BOV.

Hey Yujin, quick question. I have the specter filter and intake pipe like you have, but I can't get it to couple to the rubber hose form the blower. In your picture it looks like you are just using a blue silicone coupler to attach the intake tube to the rubber tube, but the rubber tube is flimsy and you can't clamp it, it just gives. How are you able to keep the intake from falling off of the rubber tube? I've got zip ties rigged at the moment, but short of replacing that rubber tube with something stiff that I can put pressure on I can't figure it out. I've tried a few different things, but I have just ended up wasting cash at autozone. their shit is over priced.

Yujin
08-19-2011, 04:32 PM
Autozone is overpriced Lol,

interesting, if you have a spare clamp, I would try to use that instead of zip ties. Or you can jerry rig the spectre filter onto the hose itself like KompressorINC did. If you can find a spare clamp, I'd use it, or drop by a junk yard and take one. I wouldnt buy a clamp from autozone, they are expensive, you have to really push that shit into the couplar, atleast an inch for it to stay put.

Hope this helps, lemme know how it turns out.

zmatt
08-19-2011, 06:11 PM
I have plenty of clamps and couplers arent too hard to get. I was just curious as to how you were able to manage to tighten the coupler on that dinky hose.

Yujin
08-19-2011, 06:25 PM
Tighten that thing hard with a clamp Lol. And give it a few tugs.

zmatt
08-19-2011, 10:31 PM
Right, will do. I'm guessing this is due to not having the heat shield yet, or maybe the maf, but I also notice that below 2000rpm I'm not getting the torque I should. Once it gets above 2k it revs fine and the blower whines, but if I stomp it from a standstill it takes.....it's......time....and then it flies away. The feeling I'm getting from my foot is like the electronic throttle isn't letting me floor it.

your car is set up for a certain air flow and now the mixture is wrong stock is better and no real power gain is done buy fitting there filters only noise that is unless you dino the car and get it remap-ed

pls fit a heat shield please

not helping the car as it is

Someone doesn't read.

This is simply not true. This guy did a simple intake mod and got massive gains. Your mileage may vary of course.

yes i read that long time ago

i have a c230 and no unless you do more then just fit filters you are not gaining any thing and to prove it i had this done to my c230 and got it on a rolling road and yes no gain just noise the guy that drifted his car did a lot more then just filters read the whole thread

i have been working on w202 for years and know all the tricks you might think your going faster in your head due to the wine from kompressor but no , UNLESS you get it REMAP-ED

Yujin
08-21-2011, 02:12 AM
I definitley feel a better response from the throttle, thats good enough for me. As for HP gains, Im sure their minimal, same goes with a muffler/high flow res. Nothing can be proven unless it's dyno'd, but I dont have the money for that, and dont care for it. I feel a difference than from the stock air box.

It pushes me harder into my seat so I am sure it's a bit faster. You are right, though a remap would help and when I get the cash I am getting that canned tune.

i've signed up on this forum just to say.. thanks for this info guys!! I been stuck trying to figure out how Im gon have to mod my w202k for CAI on how I'm going to fab the connection from the kompressor intake to a filter cone. It never crossed my mind that a simple intake dock should do it. I was thinking welding some aluminum pipe through it.Thankz! ALthough I would like to only use one filter for both intakes, get a Y pipe working of some sort. I beleive there is one already premade out there. I'm excited to finally start on this mod. :D

I just put the intakes back in... boy is there a difference between the airbox and intakes.

Your welcome.

Could guys post some pics of how you connected the intake dock to kompressor valve... I'm guessing you need to put some kind of metal/rubber/cardboard in between? Since the 3" dock does not fit perfectly from kompressor valve. I started after work, but didn't have enough time to get it all together. Tomorrow for sure!! ;) Thanx

This intake set up is sucking up all the hot air from the engine compartment. I don't think you'll gain anything at all.

Build a heat shield out of sheet metal from the home depot. I always preach this when people do an intake on the inside. Its not complicated. Just use your imagination ^^

I am happy to say that tonight I have finished my cold air intake using all the parts provided in prior threads. So far it is keeping it a lot cooler than it used to be, there were gaps and holes in my old air box. I am so thankful for you guys figuring this stuff out the hard way 10+ years ago. My car whines and feels a little more boosty. My c230 has 120k miles on it. I am wondering how many of you still have yours and what other mods you guys have done.

Right not sure if my post deleted itself but I'll go again of its there sorry
My car died for unknown reasons at around 175k
I did a full head rebuild at 140k sense I had a bad headgasket on cyl4
Mods were
Ported and polished head (bad casting but best gains cut a second off my 0-60time)
Cai
Kleemen pully (goto a local machinist with a spare pully he can make you one for cheap)
Mesh screen delete by the throttle and somewhere else idk anymore lol
W203 tubular header (they will fit but you need to turn it into a short header to clear motor mount
3in? Header back exhaust (1st time was catless and no res just 2 old borla mufflers vette style ) will set off alarms at idle I promise you this :D later put on a heavy metal cat and 18in glass pack res still like 3in
Was working on the loudmouth mod for the s.c inlet there is a x baffle in there removing it gains 3-4 psi increase alone its a bitch
Here's my f.b I have alot of my picks on there of everything its been a long time sense I had the car but it was fun Def miss it
