View Full Version : This is kind of concerning me...

I want to run some OEM Mercedes wheels from an SL500 (I think?). Anyway, the specs are as follows:

Front:
18"x8.5 ET44

Rear:
18"x9.5 ET46

The reason I'm concerned is because I don't see many people on here with anything wider than 9" in the rear and I haven't a clue of what tire sizes I need and how thick of spacers I should buy. I'm not lowered yet but plan to lower on h&rs in the future.

You should be ok. I'm running 9.5 rears spaced 30mm to +10 offset. Sl600 alphards. You may want to space them out to male the wheels sit flush. Hope this helps

Just as a note, AMG rolled the fender lips 100 degrees (in the front) instead of the factory 50 degrees to accommodate the 17" wheels.

you're prbly gonna need some tire stretch if you don't wanna rub. It mostly depends how low ur car is. I think 225s in front and 255s in rear is a safe bet but like I said it all depends on how low/stanced/flush ur car is

A fender roll wouldn't hurt and would probably look good.

Thanks guys, I'm going to see these wheels tomorrow night and if they're nice, I'm buying them. Hopefully I can get a lower price without the tires or even trade the tires in towards the purchase of a new set.... How much do you guys think I should offer?

I'd start probably at $650.

I saw them yesterday and they're absolutely beautiful. The guy wants $650, no rush to sell. The only issue is I need a buyer for the tires included. I'm thinking of running 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear (if that even fits...)

Thats a pretty big stretch.

Just checked it out with the tire manufacturer's tire recommendation chart and it actually says that I can stretch even more than that? I'll have to think about that one haha.

Does anyone know about the rear fender clearance? I found out from an old post by harman that 8.5" wide offset 44 in the front will fit nicely with 15 mm spacers. As for the rear, I have 9.5" wide offset 46 and I'm unsure of what size spacers I should get...

Test fit the wheels and see how far out you wanna go. What kind of look do you want? Tucked, flush, poke?

MikeD

I'm going for flush. If anything else I'd want a bit of poke that can be made flush again by flaring the fenders. My W202 is not lowered yet and I don't plan on lowering it too much

i would say around 15mm for the rear too. mine are et44 and 7.5 wide with 25mm spacers they're almost flush.

Im at +8ET front and rear with 18x9.5 OEM CLS wheels & camber arms which push the tops of the wheel out in the rear.
go to the members gallery for pics. the wheel was a 33 to start I run a 25mm spacer.

As I inch closer to getting these wheels on my car, I came across a decently priced set of tires with 225/45/18 for the front and 245/45/18 for the rear. WIll this cause rubbing issues once I lower on H&R springs?

I've ran 225's. On a 9.5 inch wheel it's gonna stretch fine. You need tonbribg down the offset closer to 30-35 grab a 10mm spacer

I was going to do 15mm spacers all around. I'm thinking I'l have all the bits and pieces to getting these wheels installed by spring-time, but the springs might hold me back because I don't want to drive a Benz that looks like it's on a lift kit

I've got 10" wide in the back with no trouble at all. 18" staggered 2 piece amg's.

Of course, not lowered. Not my style.

All of the AMGs had rolled fenders from the factory I believe so that should make a difference. Maybe the guy you bought it from modded it even more because 19 inch wheels can be difficult enough to fit.

Anyways, after a lot of confusing phone calls, I finally got my hands on a set of tires. Last steps are spacers, extended lugs, and H&R springs. Does anyone run a lowered setup during the winter? Not sure how that will be in Illinois with the Rieger kit on and all. I don't plan on slamming the car, just low enough to get rid of the fender gaps.

Bump for an old thread.....looking at a set of 18x8.5 +35 stock late model wheels an wondered about tire sizes myself as far as somethin a
Bit larger th en the 225s in that pic above. I dont have spacers so do you think I could run a 245 or even a 255?...all my info an experince is in fwd hondas lol

MikeD
01-22-2012, 06:36 PM
It'll depend on the tire profile. 255 seems to be pushing it as I'm about to run 255/35, so pretty low profile and that's on a 9.5" wide wheel. 225/40 isn't unsafe and does not cause bad tire wear if that is your concern. It actually falls within a lot of tire manufacturer's recommended setups.

My main thing is id like to have the wide look more then anything. What tire setup you think I should run? Since all my wheels will be 8.5s I think tjeir the SLR knockoffs. ...if that helps

Just waiting on spacers, extended lugs, and some warmer weather at this point. I found a guy locally that is selling a set of w202 Eibach springs with cups for $150, used only for a few months on his C43. Can anyone chime in if it's worth getting them for this price?
