Merged my two threads.

I am looking at a few aftermarket steering wheels. It looks like a 3.3 ohm resistor across the airbag connector will prevent the SRS light from setting.

Has anyone done this? I need to modify so I can go bact to the stock wheel if necessary.

Also, if anyone can help me find a used (deployed) post update airbag that would be great, as I can use the connector from the damaged airbag to connect the resistor.

Looks like I can find what I need on a Crossfire bag.

USE THIS INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I am looking at a replacement steering wheel. I did some research, and it looks like a 3.3 ohm resistor across the airbag terminals will trick the SRS controller onto thinking there is a working bag installed.

I have verified this today. replaced bag with 3.3 ohm flameproof resistor. SRS light is active during the self-test, and extinguishes after.

Got these from Parts Express via Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ZP0US/ref=ox_ya_os_product

Cheap, one dollar plus shipping.

I went with a leather wrapped NRG wheel. Chinese MOMO copy. Not a bad wheel really. Leather is decent, assembly good. The brushed aluminum finish seems to be a little "coarse", but I like the wheel. I used the resistor to simulate the airbag squib. The airbag controller "sees" the airbag as still installed. This will allow the system to fire the other remaining bags in a collision.

If you just remove the bulb, the SRS will still be in an error mode. Though the light will not be on, the system will not work in an accident. When you replace the bulb, it will be lit. The SRS will need to be reset with Star, or another method.

With the resistor, the SRS system "sees" the drivers bag as still there. The SRS will fire the remaining bags, which will still provide protection in the event of a side collision. The passenger bag also remains active, and will deploy if the situation arises.

Also makes it easier to re-install the bag if necessary for inspection/MOT reasons.
