have a 2000 c230,

started by gauges not working, then not wanting to shift.

towed it home, noticed that the maker saying where the transmission is on is blank.

replaced the brake light switch and the transmission harness connector which was filled with oil.

also cleaned out the shifter, which was gunky

still wont shift.

also the BAS ESP ABS lights are on

not sure where to go from here

thanks

when you say, trans harness was filled with oil, your conductor plate might be bad and the oil travels inside the harness drowning your ECU under the passengers side carpet.

have not been able to open the TCU yet, dont want to force it, but I dont think there is oil in there, there was just a little on the wires leading to there.

trying to find a shifter module, since the one on there is all gunky, but dont want to pay $400+ for one and not be the issue.

So I replaced the shifter with a known good one.

Still same symptoms.

I had autoengenuity, so I ended buying the Mercedes Enhancement for it

I am not able to connect to the "transmission" component of it.

also I am able to connect to the ETS module.

this gives error codes for not being able to communicate with the ME N3/10
or with EGS, fault codes 5022 and 5024

any ideas on next steps?

how does a conductor plate problem manifest itself?

thank for any help

hi did you replace the wire harness from engine to ECU

and did you fit a block in the new harness to stop this happening again the c230 is famous for this fault and frying a lot of ecu

always check the lamba sensor ,oxygen sensor as this is the lowest point if it has reached this you need to do a lot to remove all sensor ,boxes and harness with new parts then get car reset on a star system

then open the car do get in close drivers do put key in the ignition turn to position 2
put foot hard to the floor on accelerator making sure you press the kick down switch for 15 seconds
with out removing your foot turn off key but leave in ignition then remove foot now dont open a door or turn any thing on for two min

not you have rest gearbox and drive easy to reprogram her to be smooth good luck keep us posted

no didnt replace the wiring harness, on the 2000 models it was supposed be fixed already and not an issue, it was around 97 I believe that MB realized there was a problem and fixed it for good in 99-00

its the transmission control unit or EGS that I , and the rest of the control units, can not communicate with at all

I ordered a conductor plate and transmission service kit.

should be here wednesday

keep me posted in europe we have still found cars that never has a new block fitted to stop this oil contamination

the 271 engine in the w203 and the w211 do this also and they are single timing chain a and i hate saying it a crap and cheap engine i held a timing change in my hand the other day from a 271 engine and it was like a banana
