Hello everyone. I'm new to the w202 world and just had the check engine light come on. Its a 1997 c230 with 119,000 miles on it. I was wondering if there is any way I could diagnose this myself or do I need to take it into the shop.

Have the codes read and report back.
Someone should be able to help you out with that code.

Pick up one of these hand held code readers from an auto parts store and check the codes yourself.

Actually the light went off this morning. But i'm planning on a code reader just in case. Is there any specific one that I should get?

Hmmm...NEVER EVER heard of a check engine light going off by itself, unless the bulb
burned out.

When I turn the key all the warning lights come on. Once the car has started all the warning lights turn off. Never had this happen in any of my cars before.
