I want to achieve increased power and sound, plus awesome look (planning on building a show car). Can I just pick a sedan, like Subaru WRX or Mitsubishi Evo, and implant the motor? Or does it have to be a Mercedes engine?
Please dont judge me for my poor experience, guys, thats why im at the forum - to learn something :)

You can put whatever motor you want into your car, If you have 1. The Money, 2. Experienced Technicians, 3. The Time.

with a will and a swiss bank account there is a way. A motor swap is going to cost a few grand and you will need to replace many of the electronics so the car can function. A swap of a motor that was offered stock would be best as any shop that supports mercedes should be able to do that. the engine bay layout as far as i can tell os the same on all the cars so you shouldnt have to move things around. it wont be cheap though. the motor and thetransmission along along with the ecu the tcu and wiring harness and maybe a new driveshaft and axels. it would still cost a lot but it would be doable. honestly i would just buy a c230k or c280.

Buying a larger displacment 202 is by far the cheapest option, and you will get to drive it.

totally agreed. If you want to do the swap, that's how. if not then just find one for sale. The 230k and 280 are everywhere in the states and aren't too hard to find in europe.

get a c36? if it is to costy a 280 or the 230k doesn't matter wich you pick you will love it. Ps i own a c180 and c36 love them both for daily driving nothing wrong with the small 1.8 (:

I don't know if it'll work
but get a w203 C180 Kompressor blower and ecu
those should bolt on i think

building a show car ? You must have lots of money..... You should swap a LS1 into it. Never seen that done before not sure if the W202 even has room for it. Ive seen 2jz swaps & a F20C swap on the boards only swaps seen in person is a C43 swapped for a 55 . Which i assume is much easier than swapping out for a non merc engine.

If an OHC V8 can fit then a OHV V8 definitely can. Should be no problem shoehorning an LS1 into the engine bay, but that's the least of your problems. hell the engine bay should be able to accomadate a V12. It's long enough (fits an I6) and wide enough (fits a V8). Of course actually doing the swap is a different matter altogether.

Easiest, cheapest engine swap would obviously be for another engine that was offered in that car. The cheapest, most common would be the 2.8l M104 out of a C280, E280, S280 etc from 1994-1997.

Or better yet, the same engine but 3.2l from the E320 or S320. It's an M104 with another 45hp. My 1994 E320 smokes my 1994 C280 with little effort--despite weighing more!

Try to buy 1997 model year engine to avoid faulty head gaskets or wiring harnesses.
