Springs should be arriving tomorrow, I checked all my saved bookmarks to DYI from the years ago - all seem to be dead...

I remember changing rear springs on my W201, and rears were actually easier to do with out the compressor... Anyone has a step by step writeup saved somewhere? Aside from removing this bolt:

Then, lowering the arm with the floor jack (spring just fell out), were there any other bolts I would have to remove?

Nope just support it with a jack like in the picture. remove bolt drop slowly. spring comes right out. make sure you get the pad out of the cup and align the new spring properly so it seats correctly when put back together.

I remember it was quite easy, almost too easy, so wanted make sure I've not missed anything - it's been 8-9 years ago...

only the fronts were the pain in the ass! hated the ball joint.

If you have spring compressor, front is actually very simple. Klann that I've used once, years ago (landed to me), was indeed THE tool for the job, about 10 min per side. But due to the cost, and practicality, I actually use this very tool:

It is from Northerntool.com, and was only $24-$25, not 10 min per side, but 35-40 min, but no ball joint to disconnect...
