As I understood, the mileage will remain the same if i change the cluster, as it is stored electronically?

The mileage is stored electronically on each instrument cluster. Since there are some tweaks and upgrades to the cluster for the 98' and 99' year, I don't recommended trying to hook one up with a later MY.

Really? That sucks... so if I just find one that fits, how can I get it to show the real mileage? My one is really messed up, so I WILL have to swap it to another one. Sure, I can replace the flat cables (I have the known "pixel problem"), there is a risk I'll mess them up, and they cost almost as much as a "new" cluster off eBay. What would you do if you had this problem?

You will need to have the mileage corrected by either the dealership or a mechanic with STAR facilities

is it only millenium 2000 w202's affected with pixle problems?
I don't have anything on my 1999 cluster.
but then I have pixle problems on my HU climate control display, this is a common problem I guess???

Yes. The 2000 MY instrument cluster was switched over to pixels and of course, the W210's experienced the same issue. No surprise there.
