So I finally got to tackle the front lip. Man taking off the bumper isn't that easy. And who knew that the stock lip doesn't come off? So I used what I had in the garage and used some kind of silicone/caulking I had laying around. I'm gonna go to the hardware store tomarrow to get a stronger seal and just put it Over it. I only got one screw on the sides where the wheel is. Might put another on each side tomarrow. The bungee cords are there to bring the lip and bumper together with more strength thru the night. So here's one pic

Don't mind the messy garage. I'm restoring a 73 karmann ghia convertible

looks good so far. and why was the bumper hard to take off ? it should be 4 screws and slides right off.

I had to take 2 nuts behind the grill, 2 nuts behind the side grill, and 2-3 bolts near the top front part of the wheels, I was going in blind too so I didn't know where was what. I found out that the L shaped fender liner wheel well on the passenger side is missing

you have to pull pretty hard to get it off. i pulled my bumper a few weeks back and it was a fight lol.

 no the trick is not to pull hard you're supposed to push the bumper toward the car. pull outward from the body on the side of the bumper to disengage the tab then slide it forward on off the hangers. 2-3 bolts near the top part of the wheeel??? you mean the plastic clips for the fender liner ? my 202 has none of those bolts. just the 4 up front in the middle. 2 on top 2 on bottom. I hope you didnt remove the plastic hanger piece mounted to the L shaped metal piece. It can be a headache to get the alignment correct.

well duh, what i meant was once you get it pushed forward you have to pull on it, it sticks to those rails.

yeah its likes to snag sometimes just keep it flexed outward pulling away from the quarter panel and it should slide off everytime. i remove my bumper often. its become routine with the low & the lip lol

So the lip actually goes over top of the stock one? Odd.

Why is that odd ? without the "stock one" your bumper would have nothing to mount the lip to. at least pre-facelift bumpers. the top impact strip and bottom black is part of the skeleton of the bumper.

I always thought the black lip on the bottom was attached to the rest of the bumper with clips until I took mine off and saw that it wasn't. I found it a bit odd at first too
