I've been having tranny problems on my 2000 C280. After researching several posts here and on Benz-World, I may be getting a little confused. Can anyone that is an expert in the tranny department let me know if the following terms are reflecting the same part or if not, what is the proper term for each:
- Transmission Control Unit
- Transmission Control Module
- Transmission Shifter Control Module
- Transmission Control Unit Gear Recognition
- Elelctronic Selector Module
- Electronic Gear Selector

These are terms I've been reading on several threads that pertain to the similar problem that I'm having but I'm not sure if all these terms are for the same part. Also, If anyone know where the location of the above parts are. I've read that this/these units are behind the passenger side floor under the dash? Thanks for reading.

These are the terms I found on the Star CD.

Electronic Transmission Control Module is under the floor passenger side
Electronic selector lever module control module location not given but I'm pretty sure its the center console.

I won't be around this weekend and I have to cut it short but wanted to chime in.

Would the "Electronic Selector Lever Module Control Module" be part of the Floor Shifter Assembly in the center console? Thanks for answering.

No problem Tracy. Yes it is the floor shifter assembly.
not quite your model but you get the point (m.mbworld.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=183679)
What problems are you having?

My car is stuck in limp mode (Spilled liquids on center consol shifter). The dash indicator isn't displaying the P, R, N. D. I use a pen to get the car out of Park. The car won't go pass 2nd gear. I've ordered a new shifter assembly but I'm worried that I may also need to change the ETCM. Your thoughts? Thanks!

Well, Good News!
I replaced the Floor shifter assembly and my 2000 C280 Sport is running awesome! Thanks to everyone who gave me their input on this matter! Excellent site with a lot of knowledgable members!
THANKS!

Glad to hear it!
If I had seen your question in time, I would have said that you didn't need to change the ETCM.
