hi,

has anyone had any experience with a random rear suspension noise, Im getting a 'clunk'
noise (almost like a spring was let loose and hit metal) coming from my rear right suspension when sometimes coming off a speed bumb or hitting a kerb when turning left?
Had a look under earlier all looks ok and suspension fells ok??

stock suspension ? I had a clunk before it went away after how many times the rear suspension has come apart now. and shocks springs and upper control arms have all been replaced back there.

I haven't changed anything yet, don't know about the previous owner tho, it's a 1999 c220 Cdi with 130000 miles on it

Sound like the shock bottoming out (extending all the way)?

so a new spring may be needed??

Had a look at it, looks like the rear shock is leaking and the noise is more frequent, gonna get it checked later

Sorry, I never saw your reply. But I was thinking more like a bad shock.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, what if a noise was more of a creak when going over a bump? The shocks in rear have been replaced.

replaced the shocks yesterday and the noise is much less frequent but still there, i reckon from look at the suspension its a torque arm causing the knock noise.

w202_00 - you're not alone. my car also creaks at low speed too and I've never tracked it down

bazzpender - you think a bushing is bad in there?

I have only replaced the shocks in the rear. I did notice that one of the bushings on the sway bar is cracked. Other than that I do not see anything else that is visible.

just replaced the rear shocks and the noise is far less frequent, i guess that a mounting arm bush is gone, just need to narrow it down to which one, might hold off and replace most of the arms tho

the creaking could be that the rubber under the spring has worn away?? or the spring are bad

If it is the springs or those rubbers, I will find out when I throw on the H&Rs.
