Hey guys , i got my self a well working alpine CD unit. i installed it, all the speakers work, but there are 2 issues, the preouts for the sub wont put out alot and the actual CD player doesnt work.
i thought it was the head unit, but i ran this unit in my 190e and it works flawlessly. everything has been hooked up exactly how i ran it in my w124. this is the first time i run in to an issue like this and wonder why the radio works but the cd player wont... it says its playing, but no sound comes from speakers.. flip it to FM radio and off it goes!
strangest thing but im sure its something with the wiring for the MB ...
its a 94 c280
anyone can chime in? would be greatful!

Odd, how did you hook it into the car?
There is a probably a factory Bose amp, but I suspect it is looking for line level input. Don't know this for certain though. If you turn the cd volume way up do you hear it a little bit?

yea i thought it was rather odd too. IIRC it does have a factory amp. i had the cd player on today and then suddenly the subs started working on the cd player, i could hear the CD music through the subs ... but not through the speakers.. quite loud too. but strangely enough the subs barely work when u turn the radio on... they work but very very quietly ..
could this be a Amp issue ?

no spliced in to factory wiring... used a diagram. like i said radio works without fault.. except very little gain on the preouts... in cd mode the bass works bad ass but no speakers... driving me nutz.i mean i couldnt care less if the cd player doesnt work, who listens to cds anymore... but i need the preouts in the radio mode... and they no workie

i might have a answer... make sure your using the blue /white wire or amp turn on lead and not the blue one for the factory amp turn on . the blue wire is a antenna lead and turns on only in tuner mode. changing source will cause that wire not to see 12 volts other then tuner. i m talking about the wires on the deck side not car side. alpines have a blue and a blue white wire

It's probably no coincidence that this is exactly the problem I had to figure out when I installed my head unit. Definitely seems like it would be a common error.

this should be a sticky... because i talked to 4 other people who told me that the only way around this issue is to bypass the bose amp, and rewire the audio completely, which clearly is completely unnecessary!

Nope, it's as easy as getting a Metra Harness, a PAC-SOEM 4 for line-level audio, and soldering it all in.
