I purchased a replacement used hood for my c280 which came with the hinges/air shocks. I removed the fenders and it took a little effort to place the shocks in the holes and then line up the 3 hinge screws to install on both sides. Once I re-installed the fenders, then the actual hood, I noticed that the rear portion of the hood sits higher than both fenders.

My question is how much effort before I remove the fenders again, is it to adjust the hood to lay "flush" with the fenders and is this a symptom of using used hinges/air shocks?

Is it an OEM hood? If not, it may just not fit properly.

It is. I finally figured it out. Initially the air shocks stopped it from lining up because they wouldn't compress down far enough. Once I went back in and loosened the bolts to the hood bracket, the hood dropped down further and became flush with the side fenders. I guess opening and closing the hood relaxed the shocks somehow....
