So I have noticed some rattling coming from my shifter and thought it had been some change I could see that dropped down into it , so I pulled the shifter out to take a look since noise did not stop after I fished out the change ($0.12) upon pulling it apart I noticed a bunch of goodies at the bottom of the shifter plate (small Allen wrench , a caribeaner , more change ,ect ). And since it was apart I took the time to clean up the shift indicator since it was starting to get gummed up and I also noticed my shift rod bushing was shot. So I guess ill be running to the stealership to pick up a new one today also. All n all I would say I guess I'm glad I took a look

Morale of the story - Preventative maintenance!

Thats good you found that out before something terrible could get more worse.

How did you take the parts out to get to the bushing? I've got a nasty screech in my shifter, and I think you may have led me to the culprit...

Well from within the car you take off the window switch plate which allows you access to 4 (10mm) bolts , two cables just pop them off and then from underneath the car there will be a c clip type thing holding the shift rod into the shifter. Remove that and the shifter will now be free to remove.
