So I had a day off and decided to two-tone my OEM leather seats...

I started off by masking the edges with masking tape, then sprayed on the first coat.

I repeated the same thing on the other side.

That's awesome! It's the exact color scheme I wanted to do to my car too

What did you use to dye the leather. Will it rub off at all?

I used Duplicolor ( Gray ) Vinyl paint. It hasn't faded or rubbed off yet, though I did let it dry outside for about 3 hours.

Cool, did you have to order it online or did your local autoparts store have it? I have a C36 shiftknob whcih could use some touching up.

Thanks.

buddy!
what have you done to your car??
did you ever think about your body perspireing in heat?
in summer your a$$ and back will turn grey from sweat!!

now your leather will breathe less being covered with chemicals, meaning it might dry out easier.

when you're going to clean your leather and then apply leather balm, I bet you will mess up your seats!!
i think you did a big mistake about this.

Seen high mileage c43's with 2 tone leather where the steering wheel is worn out on the contrast part, they look awfull!
I'm glad black steering wheels hold their colors better.

i hope you didn't ruin the interior and can fix the problem if there are any?

ROFL dude chill out. First off its not your car so its not that big a deal. Second this is not just acrylic based spray paint. Its vinyl dye It shouldnt rub off or come up when you sweat. not to mention how damn sweaty do you get when you drive....?? unless you drive around in a sauna. it shouldnt be bad at all. I do believe that Mercedes came with air conditioning as all as windows that roll down with just a press of a button.... I live in Southern California and have yet to sweat to the point of damaging my seats....It gets pretty warm around here in the summer time that just seems absurd to even think that your ass/back sweat would damage leather. Thru your underwear, pants & shirts. Dyed a diff color or not.... How do you think they get the diff colors in the animal hide to begin with ? using dye.... And to the OP i think the two tone looks pretty clean actually a nice faux c43 look indeed!! Just remember if it does happen to fade or rub off. a new can is like what $ 7 bucks? Clean , Simple & affordable. Mods that all 202 owners should appreciate.

We're already experiencing summer-like weather over here. None of the paint has actually faded, leaked or cracked. I even forgot to leave the sunroof open today for a few hours and nothing bad has happened.

Does it just come in a spray can? Does it smell like paint when you drive now? I wonder hat it would look like if i dyed my grey seats all black. Lol

what about if you leave your car in the sun all day?
it's hot like a sweatbox in jail when you get inside it.
sweat starts drippin' all over ya.

spraycan color might not rub off at once, but will rub off bit by bit when you sit in the car.
meaning it needs re-coloring when it turns ugly.

if it's not factory made I wouldn't have done this.
but that's just me avoiding problems.

if the owner is happy with his mod, cudos

Did you actually remove the seats from the car when you did this?

my dads skoda vrs is like this.. its two toned black on white. pretty cool i must say.

if my car wasn't full black on black, i reckon i'd do the same. pretty cool detail :)

Nope, left the seats in.

I regularly leave my car parked with a few windows cracked open. Today was already crazy humid, still no cracks or tears. And no, I don't sweat like a pig, not even after working in a Honda service department all day.

Is the leather still nice and soft?

Is the leather still nice and soft?

Most of what was actually painted was the synthetic leather, the section of leather that was actually painted was the thigh support in the front seats - but it was still reasonably soft.

Yeah I was always wondering what to do after the seats on mine go bad. The two tone just completes the car.

Any updates on this W202FTW? I am thinking of doing this to my car and wanted to see how it is holding up!

I haven't experienced any sun damage or fading yet, but the paint is prone to cracking overtime. I kinda expected this since it's only paint. I simply added another coat to fill in the cracks.

Im thinking of just doing the sun visors
Since none of them came in black

How often are you having to respray?

About once every 3 - 4 weeks. It kinda drives me nuts now.

Few, and I was moments from doing this. The guy who owns the 190E at Autozone who has amazing 2 tone leather, used real leather dye, not paint.

it was a bad idea doing this mod!
I think it will be difficult selling this car when the buyer sees these paint cracks.
everytime color cracks you need to repaint the leather, pita job not worth it!

is there anyway to remove the paint and redying everything back to schwartz color?
modding is fun as long as they are good mods.

Are you cleaning and phatening the leather with leather balm to avoid leather cracks might be difficult when you painted the shit?

Dude like the original poster said CHILL OUT. It is not your car, so quit saying he messed it up. You do realize that these cars are ridiculously cheap these days, and getting different seats out of a junkyard would cost almost nothing... You act like this is a brand new $60k AMG. Calm down, seriously.

At least he is being creative and trying to make is car unique, I think it looks great.

I've seen people doing this, some with great results durability wise, some with poor results. I would consider doing it if you post back in a few months and post how it has held up. Great idea, definitely a cool, simple, cheap mod.

I still think this was a huge mistake coloring the seats.

i have seen this done , and kowalski is right the paint does wear and touching it up over time will cause issues. worse case find some c43 2 tone seats and replace your current ones

I like the look of the two tone but for me personally I would not want to put in the effort to keep it looking sharp.

Nice Job!

I mean it's his car, and if he doesn't mind the upkeep, I say do it. It looks bad ass!
