So I just got done putting the intercooler on and switching all the piping to 3" . The problem is when I hit just above 3 grand it just bogs and power cuts out, also the exhaust smells like fuel , like its super rich. Anybody have any problems like this , need help!

Sounds like the maf sensor is reading all the extra air and overcompensating for it with tons of fuel lol What mods are on it?

just exhaust and what you see in the pics.... is there any way to adjust it

If someone tunes your ecu or if you got a stand-alone ecu and use a laptop to tune it but you might be able to relocate the maf and fix it but I'm not sure on that one lol

This issue only happening after the 3" intercooler pipe was installed?
When the MAS was put into the intake pipe, is it facing the correct way?, sitting the same height into the pipe as it was originally?
It could be the MAS, or the larger 3" intercooler pipe.
Im running a liquid to air intercooler in my car now, I still went with stock intercooler pipe size, 2.75" as the fuel computer and MAS are "tuned" to calculate air volume for 2.75" pipe. maybe that is your issue.. MAS is overcompensating for the volume of air it is seeing?

Looks good. I was just test fitting my intercooler on the c36 and looks about the same spot so its nice to see it mounted. Check for boost leaks at couplers .... My 240sx would fall on its face when peak boost was reached due to cheap T-clamp /coupler

So I checked all my piping and from what I could see nothing was wrong there. So I checked my spark plugs and replaced them with new ones, and when I was putting them back I looked at my ignition coil and on both of them they have a small hair crack in the same place that runs down all the way under the spark plug boot. Would this be my problem , some of the codes it through were p0171 and p0301(or something , it said misfire cylinder 1) and that the fuel trim was not working.

Ya the only thing I had to do on mine to get the intercooler to fit was cut the bracket that held the radiator, and move it back. But yours might be diff being a c36.

I had the same misfires try fuel cleaner with techron

Did you have the cracks in the ignition coil as well, I've recently put injector cleaner in and there and there was no diff.in the shacking ..... the only thing I haven't tried or changed yet is the fuel filter or the ignition coils .... does anyone know how to check and see if it is the ignition coil or not

I had just replaced 2 out of 3 coils and it was still shaking after that I swapped them around to see if the misfires changed to different cylinders and they did, another thing I did was change my new iridium spark plugs to F8DC4's that and2 bottles of Chevron with techron fuel cleaners and now no more shaking no more misfires.

BTW I don't think its your fuel filter other wise you'd be getting a code for that, p04-something.. I recommend amazon Bosch coil don't use anything else despite what autozone or anyone tells you, they don't know shit. I think there between $40-$60 on amazon and like twice as much anywhere else. Buy one and jump it around from plug to plug see if the misfires change

Double check the part number before you order, you could actually check to see if the coil your ordering is for your car but I'd double check with the dealer or maybe someone here has the part number for your year and model

I believe the po171 code is a self adaptation code.. Basically there is unmetered air entering the system somewhere and the computer constantly has to adjust the fuel to compensate. Eventually it cannot compensate any more and it flips the code. And you are correct about the po301 code, misfire cylinder 1.
Is that MAF installed into the 3" alloy pipe?? The maf housing is a calibrated size, even the mesh plays a role!.

There's also a plug that some times gets disconnected ill take a picture of it tomorrow

nice, well Im going to replaced the ignition coils just for the fact that there cracked and that cant be good. And Ill see if that solves any problems, and if not next week Im getting my new crank pulley and then Ill be sending my ecu to upsolute to get reflashed. ( Any input on the company upsolute ...... has anyone used them and if they will be able to tune for everything Ive done.)

You have the same problem I'm having the stock map is bad for the bolt ons and the adaptive program can't compensate. I run super rich at low revs and have similar mods to you. You need retune to compensate for this. Find a shop that can tune the stock ecu (they exist) or get a standalone. You will be surprised how much extra power the engine will make with just the bolt ons and a retune.
I never had any issues with my IC setup with stock tune. Installing the MAF correctly would go along way to fixing your trouble if not all of it.
The IC piping is a bit big for the amount of flow you have, you will likely loose some responce there. Is the IC 2" in and out??
Starting out with 2" and gradually raising it to the MAF houseing size before the TB would have been ideal.
The stock IC piping is actually pretty good, the IC and its tanks not so much.
For reference,Iv run around 380hp with a 60mm intercooler piping(56mm ID) and a 60mm 600x60x215 IC,never had any cooling or flow issues.

The IC is 2 1/2 inch in and out ..... every where that I have pipe is 3 inch and used 3" to 2.5" reducers ...... and I put the MAF prob 6 inches from the cast alum intake ..... This next week Im getting my crank pulley in and then sending off the ecu to get reflashed..... do you think by getting it reflashed will solve the problem. The code that keeps coming up is p0170 (fuel trim managment... or somthing like that.)

I had one of those too but oddly enough it came on with the code for fuel filter so I changed my maf and fuel filter but it still ran like crap... Then I put techron in and it was a dirty injector lol It would do kinda what yours does but I never increased pipe size so idk... It'd go to like 2 grand and be gone then have spurts where it went away then came back but it hasn't since the cleaner. I can't see why relocating the maf sensor would matter, its the same volume of air everywhere in the pipe.. Someone school me on that? If you want a tune I have a shop for you :p
A reflash assumes sombody has already tuned the exact same car with the exact same mods on a dyno and is reselling the map,so if you have a bone stock C230K and someone is selling a map for 11psi pully kit and you install an 11psi pully than yes it will work "Ok-ish", but because of so many variables and any additional mods will alter outcome a proper dyno and retune is the only decent way forward.
It is very unlikely a remap will fix your current issue. First reinstall the factory MAF housing and see where you end up.
There is good reason the MAF is installed in a right sized straight piece of tube with a piece of mesh, the diameter of the MAF housing is one part of the equation when calculating air volume, the combination of mesh and straight pipe help distribute the airflow evenly around the sensor. If you change any of this you change what the ECU thinks is entering your engine.
In your current system there is no benefit to running 3" IC piping,It may be a negative in some cases. due to pipe size availability it would have been better to run 2.5" and step it upto MAF size gradually as the stock system does.
Initially I ran this 60mm (56mm ID) system
482
The above system also had a step up transition like this(like how the stock system is done)
this is done to minimize turbulence/disruption into the MAF.

I see what you mean now, the bigger diameter holds more air and more volume messing the maf up. If you go stand alone how do you wire it in? Sorry not trying to steal the thread

If you go stand alone how do you wire it in?
takes over the running of your engine, just gotta 'trick' the standard ecu to think its still doing it/nothing has changed so you dont get a heap of annoying light on your dash (haven't worked out how to do that yet...)

Oh and +1 for no point running 3", bit late now i guess. Also open the 'intake' up that's next to the radiator, your probably sucking in a lot more air than that can handle (may be restricting you)
But i do like how you've boxed in your filters, was about to start of the old 'sucking in hot air bla bla' thing, haha

So I got the new ignition coils and wires and put them in. It run alot better but the check engine light came on again with a different code this time.. It was a couple days ago but I wanna say the code was 9192 or something like that. Does anyone know what this code is.
