Ok im trying to change my rear rotors on my 1997 c280. I changed the front rotors and they were easy but the rear rotors I have read that are a little harder because of the emergency brake. has any of you changed your rear rotors and can give me some tips, I know that I have to remove the two bolts that hold the calipers and then the screw in the side of the rotor but do i have to do anything with the emergency brake.

I have one more question and I know that has nothing to do with the brakes but I just didn't want to post two threads
when I push auto on the automatic climate control sometimes the a/c air blows from the vents of the windshield and not he central vents, and then It switches back to central vents and it goes back and fourth, this gets annoying. is there a way to just keep it on the central vents, if I put it on the central vents the auto turns off man it just has a mind of its own. I hope I made my self clear any help is important

But please the rear rotors are are the most important.:):D

Keep the e-brake off when doing the rears.
1st slide the guide pins off the calipers/pads, remove retaining clip and remove pads.
2nd take off the two 17mm bolts that hold the caliper then slide off the rotor.
3rd remove the allen key bolt on front of rotor.
4th compress/retract the caliper pistons.
5th install new rotor and allen key bolt (careful not to over torque this..)
6th install caliper and two 17mm bolts 7th slide brake pads in, install retaining clips and guide pins.

The only thing about the emergency brake is that you might have to loosen them in order to get the old rotor off. There is a wheel in the shape of a many pointed star. It is turn perpendicular so you would be looking at it on edge. It is made so that you can get a flat head screwdriver in there to turn the wheel one click at a time. This is the adjustment to loosen/tighten the emergency brake shoes.

ok today I tried to do the change my rotors but I couldn't. I remove the calipers and allen key bolt on front of rotor but I just couldn't remove the rotor. The e brake was of and the car was on neutral. I was looking for the pointed star wheel that strictlyspeakin mentioned but I have no clue. The rotor just doesn't move at all except for rotating obviously, I don't know if it is seized or if I'm doing something wrong?

WD40/PB Blaster near the hub and rotor. usually its rust and might need a mallet to break the rotor free.

I tried WD40 and PB Blaster and took a piece of wood put it on the rotor and I hit it with a hammer and it still wouldn't move. I don't know what I'm doing something wrong. any other thing that I'm missing?

you have to rotate the rear wheel and look thru the holes to spot it. I'm trying to find a pic for you

This is what you are looking for thru the lug hole. You'll be seeing the teeth only. As you rotate the teeth the parking brake gets tighter or looser depending on which way you click it (up or down). As I recall look for the teeth at about the 2 or 10 o'clock position depending on the side you are working on. A small flat bladed screwdriver is needed to adjust it. Click it a few times then try to turn the hub. It if gets harder to turn, you went the wrong direction. Hope that helps.
