Just a thought, but I had always been around Chevy's and got my little 202 and was wondering if anyone has put a small block 350 in a 202? Just wondering how hard it would be cus I just may do it to mine.

I think a smallblock would be out of place in the 202's
I've seen a #jz (Forgot the number) in one lurking somewhere on the forums.
There was also someone else who proposed the same idea as you but I don't think he went through with it.
Just for perspective, how much would a 350 cost?

i dont think its cost effective to do so on a w202... would rather get an C36/C43 than an engine swap into a non AMG model. just my 2 cents.

There is both a 1JZ (evevevevev) and a 2JZ (dokotela) on this forum.

The 350's are pretty inexpensive to buy.Yeah this was just a goofy kind of idea I had.Now I do like the idea of a 36/43 swap.

If you're going to do a 43 swap, may as well go 55... :)

I looked into it, if you are getting a new SBC then it isn't worth it cost wise. if you find a cheap motor in a junk yard then maybe. AMG v8s can be had very cheap though and they M113 models bolt in to the 202s with no modification given you have C43 engine mounts. That seems to be a much better idea. I am currently collecting parts for a C55 conversion myself.

why the fuck would any one use a SBC nowa days when the LS1 is so cheap!! not to mention the fact that it weighs less than most straight sixes. problem's you would run into, steering box getting in the way

I agree on the LS1 swap. It's cheap, readily available, and upgrades are endless. GM horsepower is much cheaper than Benz horsepower. Might cost you $4k to do the swap, but you'll have one bad ass 202. And please don't do it to an AMG, they're rare enough already! I'd find an old pre-update C280 that's been killed over a head gasket or wiring harness issue and do the swap on that. Will have to get creative on a few things, but it would fit. Right intake and exhaust with ECU = 400+ HP and that booming American V8 sound.

Now that I'd like to see happen. Would be an awesome piece of machinery.

Ls1's are great.just used to the old school SBC.Bolt it in,attach a few wires and your ready to roll. But with it going in to a 202 it'll be a bit more difficult I guess.

Well now you guys have my wheels turning in my head.just might have to do some price comparisons.Mines not an Amg so won't be messing up anything rare.

there was a company called Mechatronik in germany who used to bespoke engine transplants and still do them like turbodiesel installs on old classics like pagodas. Anyhow, they used to drop W140 5.0L power plants into C classes before the C43 variant came about. You could maybe have a go at that, mind you your car would only be a modified C class rather than the C43 which was designed from the factory.

I am a chevy man by heart! And have only owned nothing but big block camaros and some iroc and z-71 models trucks. And I have to say Owning a MERCEDES C280 has been one of the most challaging task's i've ever had!! The complexities and finites of systems just blows chevy outta the water! Please if ya gonna race and ditch all merc systems , then drop in a chevy and burn the tires off. If not enjoy what german engineers have done. And roll on bro.

Do something different. Pay no mind to the "purists". Car culture is built upon innovation, so innovate!
An LS1 would be an obscenely incredible swap. Go for it man.

LS is an SBC, depending on which ls it's either a Gen III or Gen IV sbc. LS motors are more expensive than older sbcs like the 350. either way its more money than a 5.5L M113 and less power from any of them stock unless you get a Gen IV motor, which isn't cheap.

I havent seen it no, but seeing as a guy in England put a 5.0L engine into a 190E and got it running, maybe with some imagination you could horshoe a V12 into the engine bay of a W202. I said maybe.

In theory it should work, the 202 can hold V engines and I6's so it should be wide enough and long enough. Although there isn't much room from the motor to the bumper on the I6 models, you may have to hammer the firewall. IMO your best bet is the M137 V12 used form 2000-2002 in S and Cl classes, it's much more compact than the M120 from the 90's although it isn't cheap. Although the motor sounds like this when you modify the exhaust.

That right there is worth it alone.

yup, why can't every V12 sound like that?

well a long block M137 is like $3800 or so on ebay, not to mention you would likely need custom mounts since we don't have off the shelf V8 ones, also a coil for one costs $900 give or take. then again anyone you fly by would shit bricks.

OMFG, im sold. only $3800, plus say, $600 to ship here, only question now is to put it in my 190e or w202....

Yeah that noise is orgasmic. note, that is with a custom exhaust but you would have to do that with a swapped motor anyways.

sounds like it exceeds the 90dB sound limit here though.....
that sucks

You'd have to do custom exhaust anyway. Exhaust from an S600 or CL600 would never fit a w202. Manifolds MIGHT, but if you're already going so far as to buy the engine, you'd be silly to not get the custom manifolds.

that's exactly what i said.....
anyways the ones i've seen for sale don't have the exhaust mani included because of overcharging assholes so you would need custom headers as well.
