The CEL code P0170 points to Mass airflow sensor failure (aka MAF). Check that and all your vacuum lines.

is there anyway to check to see if its the maf?

P0170 error code is MAF. I'm just mentioning to check vacuum lines as well.
How old is your MAF? It's time to replace it if you get this error code more than once.

You could try cleaning it IF anything, it wouldnt hurt to atleast try. MAF cleaner, clean the hell out of it.

carb cleaner also works if you have that laying around. They over charge for mercedes MAF sensors, but what they never tall you is all Bosch ecu cars use the same damn sensor in a different housing. I was able to save $30 by getting a land rover maf and putting it the stock housing. worked like a charm after i reset the computer.

Yeah don't buy those cheap ass knock off brand MAF's on ebay either. I bought one and my car wouldn't go above 3000 RPM with it. Bought a Bosch, everything was good.

So I put a new Bosch maf in and just turned the check engine light off ... it just came back on after 45 mIles .... does turning off the light reset it or is there something else I need to do

Check for vaccuum leaks. A P0170 will also come up whenever insufficient air is being drawn into the intake.

Ok so ive checked all vacuum lines and no leaks. Could it be 02 sensors or cat ?

a good way to check for leaks in vacuum lines is to spray carb cleaner (or starter fluid) with the engine running around all the areas where the vacuum lines run. If there is a crack in a line it will suck up the fluid and the rpms will rise.

is the car running weird? or the code just keeps popping up?
