I need to replace the radiator on a 1998 C280 that developed a crack on the end tank where the hose neck meets the plastic. I see that this car has lines connected to it as well, which I'm guessing houses transmission fluid. How can I replace this radiator without having to service the transmission and replace the ATF?

the trans lines are hard i believe so you cant really crimp them. those lines go to a trans cooler in the rad, which will also hold some fluid. so you may have to top off the trans when you are finished. When I replaced my radiator i was also in the process of a trans filter and fluid flush.

Once you undo your lines you can tie strap them up so the tranny fluid does not leak out.but you will still have fluid in your rad so do like anf6789 said and check your transfer fluid cus you may need to add a little.

Yes, when you remove the line grab a container and be prepared to plug the fluid ports. Since you're replacing the radiator you might as well drain all of the coolant and flush it anyways.
