Also when I drive first thing in the morning It will shift from first to second and then stay there for a little bit until i really gas it then it shifts, hard of course.Any answers or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a switch marked W & S right next to your shifter. Where is it set to now?
You didn't specify what year your car is.

There is a reset you can do in order to adapt to your style of driving. You can search this forum for this procedure.

I'm sorry that was my fault,I should have specified the year. Its a 96 280. There's no w/s switch on mine though.

I have a 1998 c230 and I inherited it from my grandfather and the same thing was happening with mine it was shifting hard. My mechanic did a RESET on my vehicle and now drives how I drive not like my grandfather.

Mine did that until i checked the tranny fluid. I had to add 4 quarts!!! Check ur tranny. They say, in the morning, its suppose to jerk a little bc the cats not fully warmed up yet so i never worried about it, until it jept happening even with te car bein driven all over the place, when i went to get my head gasket done, my mechanic said he added 4qts of tranny fluid too and now it hasnt done it since, even in the morning. No hard shifts and no jerking. Also mines a 96 280 with no w/s switch either

mine shifts hard also if you keep your foot steady. Ive learned to slightly release as it shiifts and that eases the bump

I have done the same thing at times.

Google: "Mercedes K1-Spring kit", it's about $10 at the dealership. Part number: 126 270 44 77

Here's the DIY link:

A transmission fluid flush will not solve this issue. Mines was already pretty clean before I dropped the fluid pan and replaced the old spring. Also, because I do not have gorilla-like strength, I had another tech cycled the ignition ( short of turning the car on ) until I could see torque converter drain plug was visible through the drain port. Other than that it's a straight forward job.

if your trans is a 722.4, they normaly shift hard. generally the harder the shifts, the longer the clutches will last. on cars with very soft shifts, the clutches move slower ie. more wear on them. Personally I like the firm shifts of the mercedes trans'

Oops, made a mistake. There's actually a K-2 spring kit ( for the last incarnation of the 722.4 ), and according to the dealership I stopped by a day ago - I bought the last one in the country LOL

All the autos drive like hounds cos of old people I think. You need a manual

im going threw the EXACT same this i dont think its a tranny problem because it shifts smooth but it revs high when it shifts to second and its alot faster. i just installed a new fan clutch bearing bracket, someone told me to becarefull how i drive because after the installation it would program to my driving habits and waste more gas if i punch it, and also when i swapped to a K&N filter i noticed at first it stayed at low rpms at every gear and launched if i punched it
