I have LED tails (OEM) and I want the front/rear signals and front park lights to be fluorescent led bulbs (http://www.ledstrips8.com/led-fluorescent-tube-replacement-c-9.html) as well, it looks a little odd with incandescent markers. The problem is I only have one set of lights to work with and I have no time to pull them out and do anything too fancy, so I want to make my own LED PnP bulbs with regulators so I know I won't be replacing them in 2 months.

Any guidance would be great as always, but here's what I'm thinking:

A regular 7440 bulb is ~25w = ~2amps assuming 12v. I'd rather use a few higher powered LEDs for simplicity, but after searching digikey for led ceiling lights (http://www.ledstrips8.com/led-downlightsceiling-lights-c-7.html) I can't find any superflux that look like what everyone else here uses.

The markers just use 168 sized bulbs, so I'm assuming I'll just be able to use one or two higher output superflux LEDs to be visible.

I have no idea what I'm doing, even after looking through past projects and searching this for days and I'm not half as knowledgeable or creative with electronics as you guys, and I don't know where to start.

What's a popular choice for led strip lighting (http://www.ledstrips8.com/)? Will I NEED to use a regulator, or for small projects like this will resistors be safe enough? Also, if I need a regulator can you guys point me into the direction of a smaller version? Preferably not SMD, just really small to fit in the bulb assembly.

Lastly, is there somewhere that supplies common incandescent size bulb bases?

look in this website http://www.superbrightleds.com , I think they have ember led lights that have resisters that are not going to show an bulb out warning light on your dash.

They aren't exactly cheap, two parking lights from autozone are like $5 but one LED is $18. Assuming they are well built they make up for it in long life though.

This one says it will not set off the dash light in a mercedes.

If you want to buy led lights you can try ebay site. There are plenty of options for you.
