Hello, I have been looking around the forums to identify the function of this bolt, which is located next to the crank pulley and under the tensioner belt. It was leaking oil, so I had taken it out (had a spring) and sealed it. Right after that, my car would crank but not start until the third or so time. I would really appreciate it if anyone had any knowledge of what this bolt/spring hold pressure for and if it could possibly be the reason why the car won't start initially. I am taking pictures now and will post as soon as I can. Thanks

Sorry, this information would be useful: I have a 2000 c230 Kompressor

That one's got me stumped. If the bolt and spring are related to the car not wanting to start, then I'd bet alot of money that the spring was related to come kind of sensor (such as crank position sensor, etc). I can only guess, though. My experience is with the m104 I6 and m113 V8 w202's.

Thanks for the post Sulaco. I have replaced both the cam and crank position sensor and no luck. I have also checked my fuel pressure and it is good. Thanks again.

I believe the timing chain tensioner is on the left side of the engine, right next to the timing chain.
