I'm interested in buying a V1 head unit.
I saw this cool rvm stealth installation from this site
http://www.radar-mirror.com/V1.html

Is it an easy DIY project with rvm or do I have to give it away to a pro?

What do I need to buy besides buying the HU for this mod?

This is a really cool mod, thanks for sharing. I doubt any active members on here have done this, but it seems like a mod that you should be able to do on your own if you are skilled in wiring, drilling perfect sized holes in plastic, and possibly soldering. I'd think that this is more difficult than installing your own head unit due to the amount of parts you would have to remove and take apart to hide the wiring.

It looks like you will have to remove the mirror, headliner, and some pillars depending on how you install this. I guess the best way to find out what you're working with is to take apart your mirror before you buy this to see if you could fit the chip behind the glass and, more importantly, to see if the mirror can even be opened without damaging it.

would have been great to find a DIY self step by step instructions with pictures.
I'm going to LA in 2 months, have to find a radioshack selling new v1 headunits, then ship it by post back home.

Oh that's unfortunate.

Here's what I found when I googled the V1 discreet install.

One thing I notice on my V1 is it gets pretty hot to the touch after a long haul drive. I asked Valentine one customer support about it and they said it's quite normal. It saved my ass 2x while I was driving in Canadian rockies.

there's a guy from another forum who has a c36 and he retrofitted one and deleted the front ash tray... it looked good... clean and stealthy...

Great mod but my ride would never achieve a speed to get a ticket. 0-60 in 2 days.

There is nothing better than a V1 though.
