I was recently made aware that the power mirror switch should also move like a joystick. In my 96 C220 this would only switch right & left. Of course this meant I could not adjust the mirrors and may need to buy a new one. So like every thing else on this car I am limited by funds and will to look I figured why not take it apart. Also it seems like the former owner poured cola all over this car. Yes, even down the center console.

Here is what I did.

1. Remove ring from around shifter. Use a plastic tool so as to not mar the clear coat.

2. There are tabs/ clips on either side of rear of the panel near the cup holder. Always use plastic tools. Once the unit is released DO NOT pull to far before cables are unplugged. The wires are not very long.

3. Once flipped over (buttons down) pull back gently on the protruding tabs located near the top or wider portion. I had to spray WD-40 to get it released as it was stuck due to cola. Once they released rotate back pivoting where the power mirror switch is. Then separate.

4. Four small phillips screws hold the power mirror switch in place. When I removed mine this is what I found. Exploded view. I also applied some WD-40 at the head of switch was frozen due to cola.

6. I cleaned and sanded the contacts then put it back together.

It all works now!!!

Hope this helps.
