most of you know my problem recent tranny problems i bought a c280 tranny for my c36 and it didnt fit.. i heard replacing the K1 plug spring thing fixes 2nd and 3rd shifting problems on my 722.328 transmission does any one know what else i would need for rebuilding my tranny myself...
http://www.amazon.com/OES-Genuine-Automatic-Transmission-Mercedes-Benz/dp/B001G7V69U/ref=sr_1_34?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1355547872&sr=1-34&ymm=1996%3Amercedes-benz%3Ac36+amg&keywords=1996+c36
would that be part of the solution?
i know its probably hopeless but im desperate i need my baby to run...

this is one tuff repair man, look around on youtube for 722 repair. I would def try to repair it. also thats odd the c280 auto trans doesnt work. It could be cause of the ECU! I would just convert to manual man.. it would saave you a tone of money on the auto rebuild and headache. plus its a known fact the getrag from teh 190e 16valve bolts up. but you will have to order a inline 6 cylinder manual transmission flywheel from Europe , driveshaft from teh 190e almost fits would prolly need to modify one.

where at in so cal are you?

how did the c280 auto not fit? what year c280 did you get it from? it should bolt right up to that 3.6, its the same thing as a 2.8 besides the high performance engineering\modifications.

its the same year and thats exactly what i told the mechanic

mechanic is an idiot. no offence, but most mechanics are dumb and arent that technical enough or passionate about cars.

now I am not talking from experiance, BUT as I have been doing a lot of research for my w201, all the w201 manual transmissions (i have 3) they also fit in the w202 and I also have an m104 3.2 going in my 190e.

its not that hard to swap the auto transmission yourself. actually it is lol.. its heavy as hell. and its hard if the engine is still in the car lol.

im in Los Angeles (Downey to be exact)
the transmission i have is the kind that uses synthetic oil not the dextron 3
the 280 has a solonoid
the c36 doesnt
the torque converter from the c36 doesnt fit on the 280 tranny
the inside of it has less to it than the c36 tranny
the cable and plug are also different im hoping a 1992 300 tranny will fit but i dont know, its my last resort as of now

Christopher

and also im pretty sure the 96 c280 tranny is a 5 speed with over drive

the thing where the dipstick goes is for a sealed transmission like the new trannys;
my c36 has the dipstick at the back of the engine both lines dont match

oh ok thats more explained.

time to do some more research on the variances in 722 auto transmissions. your year is a big transitional year where it went from w201 to a w202 and then the 5spd electronic 722 in the later w202 years.

I think you would want to use the same torque converter that was original to the transmission. not sure if those are mix match-able.

the key is finding the correct transmission with the same plug type.

I dont think the 190e or 300e transmissions use the same control units as the new w202 electronic fuel injection cars. the e300e and 190e were old tech.

did they make a c280 in 1994?

and c36 is a 4spd 744 auto?

all of my info is assumptions and not wiki worthy

i have a 2000 c230 sport komp ,and 1992 190e. so I dont really have much experience with early gen w202s

because I will be in the same boat as you if my auto goes out. I will be looking for an alternate slush box or swap in one of my 5spds.

so the said above transmission is what comes in all c36's? your IE your 1996 c36?

if those... those transmissions are a dime a dozen at the JY. so many 300e and w201's .

If it not the 722.4 4 spd then it's the 722.6 5spd. Pretty sure only 97's used them though.

C36 AMG
Transmission: 722328 04 293533
Engine: 1049412 079223
Delivery Date 07/16/96
part number for this tranny is 202-270-2300

that is off the Data Card for my car using my Vin

I'm assuming that's a .4 as the .3 hadn't been in a car in like a decade.

It is beginning to sound like the replacement transmission is a 5 speed from a 97 and later car. 97 was the first year of the 5 speed electronic type.

this is exactly what my transmission looks like and its the only 722.3 tranny thats vacummed like mine is! this is the first thing that i told the tranny mechanic i told him i dont think my transmission is messed up i think its something to do with the vaccumes.. if it was something simple im going to be so happy and mad at the same time

Actually, according to the technical specifications book on the 95 C36 the Driveshaft was a different length in order to accommodate the 722.328 series transmission
