I have been toying with gear ratios for the last 20 minutes and came up these for the 722.6 with the 3.27 final drive:
1st 11.73
2nd 5.46
3rd 4.61
4th 3.27
5th 2.71
My question is does a c220 diesel rear diff fit in other 202's? The final drive is 3.92 compared to 3.27 making the ratios for each gear:
1st 14.07
2nd 8.58
3rd 5.52
4th 3.92
5th 3.25
Makes for a much faster acceleration but of course a lower top speed but really how often do we go 136 or 155??? With my 18 inch wheels and 45mm thick tires the circumference is 62 inches roughly compared to 53 inches with stock 15's and 50mm tires... thats why my car takes off like crap but gets better gas mileage lol it goes one extra half foot per rotation, 5.1 compared to 4.41 with 15's.. Does anyone know if the diesel rear diff will fit??

To my knowledge all 202's save for the rare C55 use the same size diff. The C55 uses the large type diff found in V8/V12 cars hence the modified floor pan.

edit: W201's also use the same diff as well which is why cossie LSD's drop right in.

Thats something to keep in mind about the 201 but i didnt mean bigger i just meant the german spec diesels ran either a 3.64 or 3.92, do you know what ratio the w201 diff is?

pretty sure our cars crack the shits if the diff ratio in out, tcu doesnt like it

Even though it learns? Youd think it would adjust like the driver wants to shift differently

dont think so, there's a fair bit of decisions on this with the guys doing gearbox mods/ e55 swap/ trying to swap in tiptronic.

apparently you can change the ratio with the star diag tool? (this is pure forum talk, unfortunately how alot of miss information is start, so dont quote me if you cant do it!)

My ETC is completely coded out, so I can swap ratios all day, currently have a 3.69 and it's more then enough.

Yes the coding can be changed via SDS but I believe only the developer. I don't know I will have to grab a C43 from someone for a day and see if I can code it. C43's had a 3.07 w210 diff.... 99-00' C230 kompressors have a 3.27 which should give a C43 a little bit of pep.

What did you say your diff was out of again? Iknow i can get a 3.64 out of a euro spec or a 3.92 but i have no way to gauge what is too much. Coding sounds very expensive compared to a diff swap

My diff came out of a SL320 and is the bigger sized diff (like a C55 202)

No it's not completely direct swap- its a pain in the ass.

Coding is gonna be tricky I'm sure because I doubt you can directly input 3.64 or 3.69 I'm sure it will give you an option or two but not custom inputs. Otherwise look into a etc swap .. Idk! =S

I know that yours was bigger but the euro 202's shouldnt be too far off right? The 3.64 i found was out of a euro and looks the same its just riskyand expensive if it doesnt fit lol

Just check the p/n on the diff .... If its a W210 then it will bolt right in. Even if it's a w124 case then I think those fit

C43's had a 3.07 w210 diff....

jesus christ, no wonder a C43 is such a dog in the 1/4 mile. what the hell!

If you want a cheap easy to find bolt right in diff ....

96-99 S320 US spec used a w210 small diff with a 3.45 ratio to get it to move ... For a stock C43 a 3.45 is perfect any more then that you wont grip.

It will bolt right in except the rear alum cover needs to be swapped from you diff. They can be found from $100-250 local wrecking yards.

That's a pretty life changing bit of information. Are you sure about this? I'm absolutely game for this mod!

So it wouldnt fit on a c230 kompressor?

I am 100% sure. But you still need to check the stamped ratio on the case ... You know how to do that?

Also what are you planning to do about your etc flipping out ?

That's a good question. Suggestions? Is there an ETC that would swap? I assume the current ETC couldn't just adapt.

RemoLexi

Current etc will not adapt to a ratio change.

I would try swapping the etc as well, I don't think it's VIN matched or anything
