What does flashing Fuel Empty gauge mean?

The light down by the E is flashing while driving.

CEL is on pulled P0170 "Fuel Trim"

We just bought this car. First time wife filled it up with Regular 87 Octane. Threw the CEL but otherwise drives fine. Drove it down to empty, tossed in a bottle of Injector Cleaner, filled up with 93 Octane. Have 100+ miles on the fresh premium gas and just started flashing the gas light again.

Any thoughts? Thanks...

Is it safe to simply disconnect the battery?

Does this "reset" the computer?

Disconnected the battery, discovered you need a code to turn the radio back on :rolleyes:

That turned off the CEL for a short while, it came back. Fuel light is still flashing.

Will need to read codes again.

Ok so it seems it indicates a leak in the fuel system - often gas cap - either needs to be tightened or replaced.

Can also be vac lines for the EVAP system, either near the fuel tank or near the charcoal canister up front.

Going to check all these things.

Yes I have noticed that it does fluctuate a bit
