So I got a little bored today and figured that I would modify my air cleaner box to try and mimic the C36 air box. The picture below is the C36 air box on the left and a standard C280 (M104) air box

For now I made the cut and still have yet to fashion a pipe...but for now the hole will have to do. Living in a relatively cold climate I'm not terribly worried about hot air.

So the big question....did it make a difference? Of course this is with the all important "butt dyno" so your mileage may vary. The throttle response is snappier...and that is about it. For a $15 junkyard mod (extra air cleaner to chop up) it was worth it.

I still need to make a heat shield for it, but I had a local muffler shop mandrel bend me some intake tube piping that fits on with a silicone sleeve that slips on right after the end of the sensor with the mesh grate. it's just a short tube with a slight bend to accept a washable cone filter. I run it without oil because I don't want to risk ruining the airflow sensor. I had the muffler shop make a nice hold down bracket welded to the pipe that bolts onto the front radiator support. If I could I would finish the rest of the piping and make it custom but for now the little custom short ram I have does the job.

not sure if it helps a whole lot, but combined with hi flow cats and a freeflowing exhaust, throttle response is quick and the motor at high revvs sounds wicked and mechanical :)

props for modifying the stock box. I only found this out after I pulled out the stock airbox but in the rad support there is a duct that feeds into the box. might see if I can reuse it when I make a shield.
