Anyone know a good source for a fog lamp lense...damn dump trucks droppin' their debris all over the road!! My right one is totally smashed - bulb still works though.

Thanks for any input.

You will have to replace the whole assembly.

Then lense itself is not replaceable.

It happend to me once, and I paid for $300 for one foglight assembly (yupe only onse side).

Lesson learned, so since then I have X-pel protective layer to protect my expensive fog-lights.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, thanks J. I forgot to mention that you have to buy the whole assembly. :(

Den

However, I think you should be able to replace the lens only on C43 foglight..

I think the C43 foglight is the same foglight use on W210 (non-AMG bumper), CLK(non-AMG bumper), and SLK (non-AMG bumper) and the lense should be removable.

I actually did replace the lense on my friend 96 E320. (the lense itself only cost about $20 from the dealer at the time. not bad at all compare to me :) )

I'll look into that. I was under the impression it's a whole assembly.

One of the reasons why I changed from C36 to C43 bumpers...I got tired of the bumper light replacements (I think I replaced 5 in 330k kilometer).

Thanks, J.

$300 for a fog light assembly? What wonderful news! X-pel is called for here, no doubt.

J Irwin, $300 for one light! Wow, I guess I got lucky. Yesterday I paid $142+tax for a left side fog light assembly from Stead Automotive in Walnut Creek, CA. FastAutoBodyParts has them on-line for $108+shipping but I wanted to eye-ball the part before I purchased it.

The glass lens just clips on to the housing. Too bad it is not available separately.

just checked fastbodyparts.com...they didn't list any fog lights for a 1995 c36. did you find them for a different car, a c43 perhaps?

C36 foglight only share with SLR129 with certain model bumper and year (I am not sure what year that has the bumper with C36 light)

C43, SLK230K (non AMG bumper), CLK W208 (non AMG Bumper) and E W210 (non AMG bumper) has the same foglight ;)

MBDragracer, I should have mentioned the year and model. It was for a 1998 C43. The MB dealer did not list the lens separately. FYI, the Hella p/n is 65515 and the MB p/n is 170.820.01.56, driver side. The dealer gave me a 10% discount. I actually paid $126.68+tax.

The glass lens does clip on to the plastic body. Too bad it is not available separately.

Sure it is....just use the info JIrwan gave us above. Buy the lens for the SLK230K, CLK W208, E W210 non-AMG bumpers. I think cost is like $8 or so.

I repeat again C36 foglight lense is glued to the foglight housing.

C43 fog light as I mentioned the lense is replaceable and clipped to to the foglight housing and last time I help a friend replace his foglight lense on his car, the lense only cost some $25 from the dealer (I am don't remember to be exact)

MBDragRacer car is a C36 and does not have the same foglight as C43

Hi, J Irwan. Now I understand the problem. My C43 has Hella fog lights. I cannot find replacement lenses for them anywhere. The other cars you mentioned have Bosch fog lights. Replacement lenses are available for them. If the Bosch lights are dimensionally equal to the Hellas, that would be the way to go. A search of the on-line parts houses indicates that the Bosch fog light assembly is roughly one-half the cost of the Hella unit. Thanks for the tip.

I'll have to take the old Hella unit to the local MB dealer on my next day off and compare it to the Bosch unit.

C43 fog light and C36 foglight is very differnet in shape and reflector.

C36 foglight is very spcific and has a projector inside, and the lense cannot be replaced (there is nothing to do with the manufacture Bosch or Hella)
It is just their construction design

Here is another shot of my old foglight what was broken due to flying rock on the highway. (driver side foglight)

notice that the glass and the reflector is yellowing to due water and dirts.
The crack is on the corner, so the water able to get inside.

As you can see this is very specific part, as the part number begin with HWA AMG part number.

And made by ZKW the same maker of BMW E36 3 series Euro spec Elipsoid headlight (projector)

Bullsh!t...any MB dealership can get you replacement lenses for the C43 foglights...
The C43 foglights are exactly the same as teh ones used in the (non AMG) bumpers for the pre facelifted 170 SLKs, the 208 CLKs and the updated 210 E-classes...
The fact that EPC doesn't list a seperate foglight lens in the W202 section doesn't mean automatically that it isn't available...but I am sure that most MB partspeople haven't figured that out.

J Irwan:

Seeing as you have a C36 and you have replaced a fog light assembly on your C36, could you tell me where you purchased your replacement fog light assembly? I have not located any source (online) other than official MB stealerships that can sell me the assembly.

Maybe I should just scrap the whole replacement idea and just turn my fog light socket into a tunnel ram and fabricate a custom intake.

greetingz,

MBenzNL, thanks for the parts numbers. Inputting the parts numbers directly into the EPC reveals the replacement lenses for the Hella C43 fog light assemblies. Doing an EPC search for SLK, CLK, and E430 fog lights brings up only the Bosch assemblies and their replacement lenses. The Bosch assemblies are different than the Hella units.

The two dealerships I went to admittted that the EPC is not always accurate.

Many thanks to the parts guys at Stead Motors of Walnut Creek and Mercedes-Benz of Oakland for taking the time to do the searches for me.

I actually bought a new fog-light from a dealer, since I know the part guy very well. So he gave me very good prices
I could have bought somewhere else that a little bit cheaper,
but hey I got to make a connection with local part guy jus tin case ;)

For those still wondering about the C36 fog light questions initially posted (as opposed to the C43), the following part numbers were supplied by none other than J Irwan:

L HWA 202 820 01 56
R HWA 202 820 02 56

THANKS J!!

BTW, dealer in Atlanta wants $477 for each assembly. That's about a grand after taxes for a set of "f"ing fog lights!!!

ThePartsBin.com offers them for $304 each, although they have to purchase them from Mercedes before selling them to the consumer.

Regards and Happy Holidays to all MB nuts!!
