the IR sensors (the ones with the red and green light) are acting up in my 97 c280. The driver door one,the glass/ lense is complicity gone and is not working any more. the trunk one the glass is still there but is not working and the rear view mirror works when it feels like it. Is there a way to install an aftermarket key-less entry. Will I be able to do it my self? I really don't care about roll down windows and all that even though it is nice :D I only used it once becasue you have to be so close to it might as well get in the car. I was looking at united auto security and their w202 keyless entry looks nice has anyone heard of them or used their products. I like way their key looks very stock looking. My key is falling a part and fading.

you should be able to install one but those IR sensors wont work anymore... i think you can get the blinking in the rear view mirror work though...

That is fine, i don't like the IR sensors you have to be so close for it to work and the only sensor that works is the one on the rear view mirror. I just want to install a new system so I can open the doors remotely.

thegame, i have a 97 c230 and my transponder unit "ir sensor" on both the driver door and trunk is completely broken and useless. i have seen those aftermarket kits for our car and was thinking the same thing. i was going to buy one as a b-day gift to myself but other things came up and had to re-prioritize. if you do get one you should write up a thread.

I did send them an email and they replied.
"This system is built to replace the IR system. It works on a radio frequency so you get a better distance range (25+ feet). So it will take care of the the issue you are currently having. Also our system is built with the latest technology that was not available back in 1997.
As for the chip/transponder in your original key, you will simply need to move it over to the new remote to be able to start the car using the key. We do offer the key cutting service if needed for $39.95 (you will have to send us one or two of your original keys).
And finally the installation is simple, you can install this system under the passenger's side floor board using just 4 wires. If you need extra accessories (such as parking lights) you can follow the manual to connect them. The manual is written in simple to understand terms to eliminate any confusion. Plus you can contact us at 1-888-526-5551 and one of our tech support team will help you while you install the system if you have any questions.
Thank you for your interest and hope you have a good evening."

I just ordered the unit from united auto security it was $166 and it should come to my house tomorrow or monday. their responds is very quick on ebay i think they have people working at customer service at all times. I ordered it at around 11 am est and send them a message about it, they replied back in 1 hour saying that the item has been processed with a tracking number and waiting to be picked up by the USPS driver. That seems very quick to me.

I just installed it and everything works fine very easy also. My range now is 30 yards, it will also roll the windows up and down. I also tapped in to the hazard button so the blinkers flash when you lock and unlock.

HELP !!!! What model and make/type of after market alarm did you install??? I need one (kind of like locking the barn door after the horses are gone) I got my car burgerized and they took it all...stereo/gps nav system/radar detector/even the rear veiw mirror for the reverse backup cam...oh and the first aid kit in the rear deck area.....!!! Now I thought I had an alarm in the car cause the little blinking light and when the windows are down and the car is locked if I open the door lock manually there is a alarm/horn that starts sounding and only locking and unlocking w/key stops it...but I've never had the be-bop key fob, I just lock and unlock with the key.....Or how can I tell if the alarm is installed and get a be-bop key fob.....

i got the united auto security. they make one specifically for the w202. but this is not a car alarm this is just a remote key entrance. in order to test your car alarm just lock the doors and then wait for 30 to 40 seconds and then open one of the doors from the inside (not with the key) and the alarm should come on. if the alarm didn't come on, open the trunk and then remove the panel to see something like this 1387 or very similar to it. check the connections, disconnect and then connect them again see if this helps
I will also take some pictures to show how everything is connected on my key-less entry, the weather here in Maryland has been afoul raining every day

Thank you...I will look into the "United Auto Security Alarm System"
You don't need a specific w202 keyless door entry, you can use a $25 audiovox unit from ebay. Just tap into the trunk lock and connect the alarm/keyless entry to it. I did it on my car when I lost my remote/fob im using the spare large key now.

yea i know but their keys look very close to OEM, but not very durable. I already send one key back to them for replacement because it wasn't working.
