I've been in contact with Kevin Bird of Birds Auto for a few years now, he basically designs and manufactures LSD's for Quaife. He deals with mainly Euro's, Mercedes and BMW specifically.

I contacted Quaife a few years back about an LSD for my W202.024, they then turned me over to Kevin as he dealt with mercedes.
When i first bought an LSD from Birds Auto, it was incorrect, so I shipped it back along with an entire spare diff I had for my car. (He wanted to see why it wouldn't work)
After a long time of R&D he told me he had a prototype, but couldn't produce the diff he had made due to lack of interest. Producing 1 for just me would be very costly.

He said that if I can get 20-30 interested people, and 10 guaranteed buyers, he would be able to produce it.

Club202, this is our chance to have an LSD for the w202. Other units on the market are in excess of $3000 for a w202. The Quaife unit will be $1350-1400 USD. This is directly from Kevin. I am not looking to make any profit from this, I just want an LSD for my w202!!

In order to properly verify fitment in your vehicle, your VIN number will be required. Kevin has given me a list of vehicles the LSD might be compatible with. See below;

210 E 250 d

Again a VIN number is required for Kevin to verify fitment for your vehicle.

If you are at all interested, please reply to the thread and contact Kevin Bird at kevin.bird@birdsauto.com, please include that Ross informed you of the group buy, also include your model and VIN number so he can verify. If we get 10 guaranteed buyers, he will produce it.
Cost wise again we are looking at $1350-1400 USD per unit. Possibly less and possibly more, just depends on number of guaranteed buyers.

Please Club202, lets get this to happen.
Thank you guys,

Ross

Hi Ross. Thanks for doing this GB. I did have a question. How does this LSD integrate with the electronic "stability control" of the C43? Would it be bypassed pr something?

I am interested. Problem though is I just dropped alot of money this last month on stuff. Are you cool with the guy, Kevin? Think he would go for a 20% deposit to hold me as a guaranteed buyer?

Are you spreading this on other forums? Should definitely be on mbworld, benzworld, peachparts, 124performance, and 190revolution

I don't think there would be any issues with the ESP, it will still function the same.
You can either email Kevin and ask him, or wait till his account is activated here as he told me he would answer questions.

No not yet, but I should be doing so soon.

I know! That's the one I bought! It is listed, but it is incorrect.

If someone can come up with a real solution to disabling the ESP, that would help as well. Can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated with my C43 because the C43 in "off" mode still isn't really "off." It's like taking it from 100% traction control down to 35% traction control. In a V8 rwd car, that's just spoiling the fun.

The versions currently on our website are correct. Some are showing as "In Development", and the other ones are in stock. You need to know that all C43 cars do not have the same final drives installed. We have a version for the C43, which is compatible with differential case part number 2023500123.
But the USA version seems to have been built with a different part number, so unless we have the vehicle VIN, then it's impossible to tell what you need.

Regards, Kevin

With the c43 being CAN bus i think dreams of having TC 100% off are exactly that, dreams. Only way I see around it are either piggy back ecu or stand alone. Of course there could be some smart cookie out and about with the know how.

C36, well any pre 97 may have a chance

If you install a Quaife, the action of the ESP is substantially reduced to the point where you would either be in very slippery conditions (not enough tyre grip even with both wheels driving), or maybe were deliberately trying to de-stabilise the car. I wouldn't blame you for wanting to do that, though.

Regards, Kevin.
