This is one of about 50 different incidents over the last year and a half where my gas gauge has read inaccurate readings, especially on long trips or commuting somewhere. In those situations, not knowing exactly what is in the gas tank despite topping it off before such a trip is scary ans unsettling.
I'm about to the point where I want to just bypass the gauge in the cluster and have an actual quality fuel gauge in a little pod housing with a mount. Probably nobody has done this, but I figure by the time I pay someone to fix whatever but is failing to keep the gauge from getting an accurate reading, I could just bypass it and get a Defi gauge for fuel and set up a much more accurate reading system.
I know this would have to mean going into the cluster harness. I do not feel too comfortable messing around with the fuel system, which is why I say in this isolated incident I would pay someone to fix it. But the aftermarket gauge sounds like a fun project, albeit time-consuming and not easy.
What do you guys think? Fix the bug in the OEM system or bypass it and get an accurate reading? Thoughts? Yes, No?
