99 c280 Tranny question

My 99 c280 has the 'locked' transmission dip stick. How do I check the tranny fluid level? Looks like I'd have to break the top of the dip stick to get it out. Do I need to replace the dip stick once it's removed? Thanks.

Your MB doesn't have a cap dipstick. Have to get the special "disptick tool" one they make to check the fluid (its like
a very long oil dipstick). Either buy one
or have a mechanic that has one check the fluid. BTW sure hope this isn't the first time you've checked your fluid.

You can keep the red tab and the black cap after checking the fluid level, mines hasn't fallen off despite being broken off.

You can go to a Mercedes dealer and have it checked for free, they can top it off for free too.

It's rare that I see the words Mercedes and free in the same sentence. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for all the input everyone!
