View Full Version : Best way to plastidip wheels white?

I'd like to give this a shot, unfortunately me and plastidip/paint don't have the best relationship as I am not the most patient. Are there some techniques anyone can recommend so the plastidip doesn't come out tacky-feeling when it dries and it's easy to care for as far as removing brake dust?

Check out Dupli-Color's website and they sell an entire kit to refinish your rims. There is videos on youtube with people that use this kit and have done white. I have bee contemplating on doing white myself. I am the same way I am not sure if I have the patience for this kind of project seeing as my 202 is my daily driver. Hope I could help though.

blue painters tape slid underneath the lip of wheel onto the tire to mask it off. Lay wheel on ground. Spray a nice heavy coat first, then a couple more light coats after. try to keep them even coats as any heavy spots will show. you will need 4-5 cans for all 4 wheels. experiment with some scrap and you can mess around with the finishes. hold the can closer/further = different textures. best stuff on earth!

Off topic, but while I did a test on one of the wheels.....took some steel wool on the grille bezel and some of the chrome on the grille insert, yanked all the plastidip on it and went back to a stock look.

Does everyone think the stock look, looks better or back to blacked out?

P.S. Going to get my bumper on next week, and took off the plastidip on the emblem too.

Well, my wheel project is 50 percent done. Had to call in a friend who was more experienced with plastidipping wheels, we got 2 of 4 wheels done and I must say once it 100 percent cures, it looks 100 percent better. Adds some nice contrast to my vehicle. Just gotta do the other 2 next week when both of our schedules don't conflict and finish up the other side

What do you guys think?

The wheels white look great. I also prefer the silver grille.

I guess I'm not only one withe the bumper less look.

Hey mb, maybe we'll start a new trend...riding bumpeless. Imagine how much horsepower we're making with all that extra cool air hitting the radiator and brake ducts. Moar power! Lol, just kidding :)

Hopefully for the sanity of both of us we'll get ours back on.

I've always just cleaned the wheels good and hosed the plastidip on and its always came out great. I usually don't even take the wheels off, just stick newspaper behind the spokes and paint the tires and everything then peel it off the tires. I just did the chrome trim on my silver C36 a few days ago, turned out great, super easy also.

Thanks, anyways. Offset was the most important part of the question ))))
