Help please from my knowledgeable friends.
I have a 95 C36 which is slow off the mark from stationary. Once it is in motion, it is quick. Feels like engine is half choked in initial acceleration. In anticipation, I have change the mass airflow sensor and the oxygen sensor in the exhaust. My local garage has done a full service with new plugs, oil and topend gasket. They have checked and reset the ecu and said they cannot find anything wrong. I have suggested that they should adjust the Bowden cable and they felt that was not an issue. I have changed the accelerator cable too as I cannot reset this 4 speed box. Read through most of the ideas presented in the forum and I am not wiser. The garage mechanic is also convinced it is not the exhaust box either. (The car was standing in a hypermarket for over a year without being driven.) Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thanks

If the car moves off in second gear, yes, you are right in that it is not keen to downshift to first. I would expect it to take off quicker in second gear though. It just feels the power has been "Clamped". It moves off slower than my 190E 2.5-16v.

That's how my c280 feels as well. I always thought the car was slow to react off the line due to the fact that we have an electric throttle.

I now have the answers after it has been to four different mechanics at the main agent.
1. Need the larger cold air inflow for the C36. Apparently the car had an OEM C280 which was smaller.
2. Change accelerator cable. This improves the accelerator pedal movement resulting in a better response.
4 speed Gearbox is not faulty, tested; but definitely less responsive than the 5 speed. Told I cannot have an upgrade.
One of the mechanic said that I should switch back to the 17in AMG alloys instead of the 18in I have put on the car. Is that correct?

hm I don't see why you need the smaller 17 inch wheels back. I have got a c36 to on 18's and it breaks the rear tires lose (245 Continental sportcontact 5)

Do you have winter mode switch? It might be on winter mode too

Itll probably be S and E on that model, if its on E itll take off in 2nd, S should take off in 1st, flooring it to the switch will make it downshift to first regardless of the switch position.

So id be checking that switch to start with, and then adjust the throttle valve cable.
