View Full Version : What's involved in the swap I have in mind?

I have a 1997 C230 right now and I got a swap in mind. I'm planning on getting at LEAST a v8 in there. Work wouldn't be a problem I'm just curious of what kind of work I'm ahead of. I'd like to get a C36 engine in there, or an engine from an E430 because I'd imagine there's a lot of 'em and I've checked the bay and the engine itself is very cheap... I know I'd be required to swap the harness, ecu. What else would I need to get to swap? I wish my stock differential could handle the power of a v8 or C36, but that's really unrealistic. My question is would I have to get a separate trans? I've never done this before, but I know I'm well capable and I've got VERY knowledgeable help if I need so. Thanks. I wouldn't be dragging the car so it's not gonna see much abuse but city driving and occasional highway, but I plan the swap anyway.

Nope. Not realistic at all. Just go buy a C43.

And for your info, the 3.07 diff you have is what C43's have also. So the diff is your least bit of worries.

you'd need a c43 or c36 complete donor car and then you'd need to swap EVERY over, that'd mean stripping both cars down to the shell

Actually for the c36 you could use a c280 and just get the c36 engine

Yea the cheapest solution is to buy a C43 / C36.

Two c43s have sold for less than 4k within an hour of where I live in the last month. You'd spend more than double that to convert a non AMG.

+1, and you still wouldn't have an original AMG no matter how much money was spent.
