I don't really want to sell my 97, but I need to get rid of some cars. I have too many projects going on at the moment and not enough room or finances to finish them all.
1997 C36 AMG
188k miles
1 of 199 imported to North America in 1997
Mandrus Emil Wheels 19x8.5 / 19x9.5
H & R lowering springs - 2" drop
Some other little mods such as ebay grill, lip spoiler, clear corners, etc.
I purchased this one around 3 years ago in New York with 162k miles, and have loved it conditionally ever since.
I haven't had to do much to it as far as repairs, it has been a very reliable car for me. It went from New York to my home in Las Vegas, and from Las Vegas to my new home in Iowa. Never skipped a beat on either road trips. Very smooth and comfortable car!
I did give it the full tune up when I had purchased it. Oil change with Amsoil 10w40 in winter and 20w50 in summer, trans flush with Amsoil ATF, diff fluid changed with Amsoil sever gear 75w90, air filter, fuel filter, OE spark plugs, and replaced a coil pack.
Besides that, I've never had an issue with the car, it runs and drives beautifully. A/C blows cold also!
Cosmetically there is some issues, I have been meaning to get around to fixing them, but as I stated, too many projects and too little time.
Headliner is starting to sag, sunroof liner is completely loose and ready to rip off any day.
The IR sensor on the drivers side door is also broken (very common), but the other two sensors work fine.
The hood has a slight kink in the body line on the drivers side, I hit a deer going maybe 15mph, could have been much worse.
The fender is also dinged and kinked lightly by the corner lens from the deer, but I have a nice replacement that is black and off of a C36 (rolled fenders). Just haven't had time to throw it on. I was just waiting to find a nice clean black junkyard w202 hood to put on also.
There is also a couple small rust spots on the drivers side, one along the trim, directly below the mirror (common spot) and a couple small spots on the lower part of the rear door. Sadly it was an east coast car, and the rust was there when I had purchased it. I had always wanted to fix it but haven't gotten around to it.
I will add that I currently own a 96 and 97 C36 and the 97 is much better. The electronic throttle body and electronically controlled trans are a huge improvement over the older style. It also feels considerably quicker, but that is probably just the gearing with the 5-speed.
There is also a myth that the 5-speeds are weaker than the 4-speeds and prematurely fail like the C43's. This is a myth! My trans has felt awesome since I've purchased it. I have a friend with 97 C36 also, and he purchased it with 160k miles also and it now has 260k miles on the stock engine/trans. And he hits kick down at least once a day, his car is beat on religiously and it has taken it like a champ. His trans to this day feels just as good as mine, with 100k more (hard) miles on it.
I am asking $4000 with the Mandrus Emils, or $3300with the stock wheels.
Also, I have the passenger side fog light. I had removed it in an attempt to retrofit HID's, but never got around to installing it.
