It wouldn't be the flywheel causing the failure to accelerate, unless it was somehow affecting a crank sensor or rpm sensor of some kind. Pretty unlikely.

First things first - if your starter is working now, work on the problem of it running lousy. Is your CEL on? Are there any warning lights? How long ago did you change your air filter and remove the engine cover and give the whole engine compartment a really thorough inspection?

If the CEL is on and you live in the USA, go to an AutoZone and they will check the codes and give you a printout. Once we know what the car thinks it needs it will be easier to decide what to do first.

I know, late response but it would be a great start to check for vacuum leaks on those 722.3s. VERY common problem.

Crawl under the car and take a peak at the fuel pump and fuel filter and see if there's any gas sleeping out of the lines. One a 96' C280 that I previously owned, I noted a tiny hole in one of the rubber fuel hoses that would drip gas under moderate loads. Those lines aren't particularly well shielded from the elements.

Am I the only one who cannot open this thread because the title is "Tranny"?

My email at work today said "Tranny" reply to thread. Ummm Let's start a new thread with a better title?
