a/c heater problem

so the past couple days has been cold and everytime i turn my heater on climate control module on "hi" im getting cold air and i press my defroster button for the front hot air for a couple mins then turns back to cold air. When im in the fwy it turns on to hot air but once i get to stop and go traffic cold air. i need some help on what else to look at. im not very good when it comes to electrical..

@cabbie7 i fixed the problem check your coolant turns out i just needed to top off my coolant

Check and or replace thermostat.

What is your operating coolant temp at? If its cooler then usual you may have a stuck open thermostat.

How can I check that? Is it something I can do or should a mechanic to do? Cause I topped off the coolant and nothing happened.

Well, a thermostat is pretty cheap and easy to install yourself, just throw a new one in there.

Add coolant, start car, blast heater and select the windshield defrost
