Okay so I have put about 70,000km on my car since I have owned it so it is at about 180,000km. I have never changed the transmission fluid in the car and I think its about time to do so. What tranny fluid is good to put in my 98 c230? What about an engine coolant flush? Do I need to go see the stealership for OE fluids? My car is going in on Monday for an oil change and would like to do these couple of other services as well since I have never done them in the 70,000km I have owned it.

recommended to use Mercedes transmission fluid and coolant and mobil1 0w40 synthetic oil
everything can be done by yourself man easy as hell. I have done the coolant and oil change myself and not yet the trany fluid.
this link has lot of DIY for the w210 e class which is very similar to our cars. G-AMG guy on benzworld has alot of DIYs about the his w210 and they are very clear.

Did you actually check your tranny fluid level/condition? Absolutely essential to use MB tranny
fluid. Little pricey but I wouldn't cut corners with something as important as the tranny. May
also want to change the plastic socket jacket (fluid can seep into it over time) and the regulater
spring (if this breaks tranny can slip). Both parts are cheap and easy to install.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven`t checked the fluids yet but I figure sitting at 180,000km and I have never done it yet it`s about time to have it done. I would love to do it myself but it winter time In Canada right now and I don`t own a garage otherwise I would do it myself. I will be buying MB fluids 100% because I don`t believe in saving a couple dollars for a cheaper brand. Is this `socket jacket` & `regulator spring` a MB dealer item? I will want to change them if you say it helps the tranny. Last thing I want to do is have to do any type of transmission work. I was suppose to go in today but we got like 2 feet of snow last night so the 202 wasn't going anywhere today. I will keep this thread posted on what`s good.

Have to get the plastic socket jacket from the stealership, but it's not much. The other part is the
solenoid pressure regulator spring. Can see if the stealership has one but can easily find one
on the web. It's only a few bucks.

Okay awesome thanks a lot timmyj51. I will be at the stealer this weekend so I will definitely be picking up the fluids and those couple parts to have everything mint. Oh another question if you don`t mind...For the transmission gasket, Do I need to replace that? My mechanic said something about it being a life time gasket. Is this true? I just want to get all my parts/fluids while I am there this weekend. Thanks a lot for your help.

Yes, need to change the gasket. Most of the MB tranny pans also have a magnet in them to catch metal flakes. Might
want to change that as well, stealership should have them. When I tried to buy the spring from my stealer they said I
had to buy the entire valve body for the spring! Don't know if the stealers up their in Canuckland will try to pull the same
thing.

Canuckland hahaha Thanks for the heads up though. Now I know what to say if they try to pull something like that one me...

I finally got a chance to go and get all the parts and fluids I need for a tranny flush. It cost me $263 and change for tranny fluid, gasket, filter, some seal, some pin and a screw. I feel like I got raped by the stealership with those prices. It was $182 in fluids alone....But like stated above not going to cheap out when it comes to my transmission.

I used Valvoline atf 70,000 miles in the red bottle and 2k miles later and its still fine
also Chrysler has cars with the 722.6 transmission there atf is a lot cheeper and is the same stuff I mean cripes its the same tranny .. lol
any merc 236.14 seal of approval should be fine if it meets the quality and same frictions

shell atf 134 works
