Whats the most you guys spent on repairs? Or how much have you spent on repairs while owning your w202? I had my 99 C280 for about 3 months now. All is well, but I dont know if I would want to take on repair bills that go into the thousands. Is it really worth it when you spend a few grand to repair you car? Or that your repair bill may total up to a good percentage of your cars value? I know theres the mentality if you play you pay. But c'mon it can only go so far, its hard to not think about the "other" cars that don't even cost as much to repair and is really reliable. I am not bashing, just trying to get a good consensus of what you guys think about repair bills, and reliability of your ride. =)

knock on wood i have not had any major trouble, maybe 300$ at most (not including normal maintanance which either saves or kills these cars!!) with my 94 280 (93,000 Mi.). but i have noticed mercedes are either unbreakable or always in the shop.

But for the bills it is hard to justify them some times, i had a 190E that had lots of troubles <1800$(motor mounts, timing belt(almost snaped), new fuel injectors, radiator, O2, at one point it was blowing out fuses like crazy?). But a point came when i only fixed what was needed and either tryed to fix other thing myself to save$ or lived with out it. But once you get a good one you develop a loyalty. mine is to german cars in general.

Look at the pole question would you buy another 202 it might help

I'll qualify that this was on a 210 ('97 E420) and not a 202, but both are typical problems:

A/C compressor failure - $2K+ to repair (run that A/C even in winter!)
and the all time bane of all - Transmission failure aka the jerk of death $5000+ (Service that ATF!)

Both I would consider preventable.

That's about it...but they were far too costly for my liking.

Most expensive was about $1200. It was to replace the head gasket in my old C280.

Nothing really that bad on my car but some stuff needed to be done but then i totaled it.

lets see i had

New spark plugs, MAS, O2 Sensor, spark boots, coil packs, wire harness(previosly changed)

But it needed a New Head gasket that would of taken 1300 or so outta my wallet!!

The most I spend on my C280 was $1450.00. It replaced the wiring harness, ignition coil and some other gasket which Autobahn did not charge me in installation.

Lets see. Over the past two years (since summer of 2001), spent about $8,000 on repairs. Most expensive at once? Headgasket, lower control arms, bushings, steering shock...total came to about $2100.

Ya, I know that's a crazy amount, but I love it. Still drives like new, looks new too (well except for the front bumper full of rock chips). :D

I got 2 OEM orig. O2 sensors for less than $ 300 with 9.1% tax yuk. If you look enough on the web you can get the front for $109 and the back for $148. The front one was only 28k old but previous owners ran it for 18+k miles with a plugged up EGR port in the intake. That ruined the front one. It was bather in white powder. Yuk. It probably thermally stressed the exhaust and cooling system too. I have no idea if it did much damage. Any way, 45 minutes later (special cut out 7/8" socket) I was done. When I test drove it all of the sluggish responce and bizzar cold running are gone, gas milage up, and Big smiles on my face. By the way, the car was taken to 3 different reputable Stealerships in that 18K, The same P0 codes every time, you think that they would have figured it out. I would have found it eventually but Club 202 pointed me to the EGR port. Mine's gonna get reamed out with that speedo cable every 30K now. Hope that I still own it 30K from now.

How could I forget. I paid $2342 for a 4-way alignment on a Selet (or however you spell it) bench. Or should I have said pulled. Previous owners were not so nice ... I'd like to pop a couple of people in the.... I'm very happy with how it turned out.
All of my No. are centered in the "AMG" preferred range with stock bolts. When I got the car the thrust angle was -.1 and the steering angle was +.1. It drove pefectly straight but thats about where it stops. 3/4ths of the No. were out of range. It was supposedly just aligned before I bought it. And it had!
