So a close friend mine has experience in cutting springing to lower cars. He offered to cut my stock springs for free because he's a close friend of mine. I enjoy the ride and have rode in lowered cars and know how bouncy it can be, but I hate how much wheel gap stock 202's have. Since I'm in college it would be had to save up for coil overs. Should I take him up on his offer? If so any recommendations on how much to cut?

what model do you have if its a 2000 c230 I can assure you a 2coil cut wont make much difference (2.5 dropish) you just need to have factory overall height tires and a slight hand pull on the fenders ;)

I've cut springs since my first car (202) it didn't get bouncy at all, slightly stiffer maybe if that. 202's don't seem to have horrid side effect on cut coils if done moderately and not lay frame.

How much did you cut? Was it enough to get rid of the wheel gap?

here is a 2.? coil cut I had a little bit of broken coil on front when I got the car so we just cut it all round 2 coils tire height is the same as the factory tires just wider and I slightly hand pulled the fenders (exactly that right by sport badge you pull the fender and adjacent that and it pulls slightly to stop rubing )

Cutting 1.5 coils on 1 bump pads will give you the same ride height as h&r springs but will soften up the ride if you have oem shocks, I recommend going with Bilstein sports

Cutting coils, which I would definitely NOT recommend doing, will also screw up your shocks as they are not engineered to run on a shorter travel. They will probably start leaking soon.
