inflared key ? there is a company that will allow remote start for that but its around 700 bucks , since i dont drive mine during the winter i added a directed 504k shock sensor and kept the factory . what are your main concerns by adding a alarm ?

I would add an alarm just for safety. I would know that my car is somehow "protected". Because it gets hot in the summer , I would like to start the car 5 min before i go to work and leave the AC on :) Would be nice , no?

I don't think it's possible, to be honest. Aftermarket system would need to work with the EIS system, and pretty sure MB would never allow that.

I bought this:
http://www.amazon.com/Mercedes-Benz-Keyless-Entry-System-Remotes/dp/B0083IVGUO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404442159&sr=8-2&keywords=w202+flip+key

and a remote start module:
http://www.amazon.com/Avital-4113LX-Remote-1-Button-Remotes/dp/B002KRJOX0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404442977&sr=8-1&keywords=avital+4113

Problem solved, no IR to mess with, better range, it'll even roll up/down windows.

I have a Viper 5704v installed in a 96 C280. One mile range > IR remote within 5 feet of car, highly recommended.

your able to do that since your 96 c280 is a switch blade key . ours with the inflared key is more expensive to do

As long as you have a standard key a remote start is possible , most alarms will tie into your existing system too , more likely your factory security and vacuum locks .

I have a flip/remote key. What do you mean by standard. I currently have a Viper Keyless Entry system installed with no alarm or remote start. It works with the vacuum lock system fine.
