View Full Version : Interesting tranny observation

I had my thermostat replaced on Fri. Now I've noticed that in addition to the engine temperature reading correctly, my tranny no longer has the "kick" in its shifts for no apparent reason like it did before. Before I did this it seemed that it always acted as if the car was warming up. Not the delayed shifts, but the hard shifts. Now it doesn't. Any ideas?

maybe your whole car gets all nice and toasty now

I would think the engine thermostat and the catalytic thermostat arent related.

The tranny kick typically happens when the Cats are not up full optimal running temps. I am not sure how this temp is monitored.

The engine thermostat is basically used to open and close the coolant system, right?

Not 100% sure if the change you experienced is related. I would think not.

Can anyone shed more loght for us?

I don't happen to think they're related either, it just seems like a funny coincedance. Oh well, it does warm up (the heater) quicker, which is nice. It actually shows to be running at normal operating temperature instead of fluctuating so much like it used to.

Den,

The third wire on your 2nd O2S is actually a heat sensor.

Thanks! So I was right in that the thermostat used in the radiator and the one monitoring the cats are different.
