I am a new 98 C280 owner. I have a 3 keys. 2 smart keys and a flat valet key. My question is about the valet key . Can it be used to start the car if so how
When I put the plastic flat valet key in the ignition slot nothing happens it will not unlock steering or turn. Am I supposed to do somthing else ?

Advice would be most appreciated

there is a metal key in side that plastic key. I think that is the one that you use to start the car not the plastic key it self

No.

Metal key is for unlock only.

If your plastic part doesn't trigger the ignition when you insert it, then the key has failed and needs to be replaced.

That flat plastic valet key will start and drive the car but nothing else. At this day and age, that key has died. It's been a long time since I've seen one, not sure they are availible.

Thanks I put the key up and I keep the metal key separate in case I have a door lock problem
