Hi fellow 202ers,
My 1999 C230k (62k miles) won't fire. I have spark. 60 psi of fuel pressure. Still nothing.
Parts that I have changed:
Fuel pump (bosch)
Fuel filter (oem)
Fuel pump relay (siemens) (tested each pin for constant, accessory, ground, etc)
2 Ignition coils (duralast)
Starter (duralast)
Car battery (duralast platinum)
Crankshaft position sensor (duralast)
All these parts are no more than 2 weeks old.
All it does is just crank and floods the manifold.
Before all of this. I had a problem with my fuel system. So I replaced my fuel pump and filter. I noticed I had problems with my relay because the ground (85 pin) was reading 4.7v for some reason (I have a huge stereo system) The pin must of been grounded out somewhere.
What I did was instead of using the relay I wired the fuel pump direct to a toggle switch. Power and ground. The car started but was misfiring alot and blowing gas fumes out the exhaust. It started though. I was getting misfire codes all the time
I told myself, something is wrong and I would like to hook the fuel pump back to the relay. Since my ground (85 pin) off my fuel pump relay was reading positive voltage. I cut the wire and grounded straight to the battery and the relay started work again off the ignition. How I know this was that when I turn the key the fuel pressure hit 60psi. Tried to start but nothing.
I asked a mechanic over the phone what I did and he said that ground you cut might be hooked up to the computer. Next thing I did was I took out my whole stereo system apart to figure out why the 85 fuel pump relay pin was reading positive voltage. After I disconnected the entire stereo system and connecting the relay wire I cut. It didn't read positive voltage anymore. Now the relay is working as normal. The fuel pressure gauge will click on for 1sec on accessory then go down. Then when trying to start the gauge with go to 60psi. Still no start though.
I even tried to hook it up back to the manual toggle switch and still nothing. That was working before.
That is when I started to change all the parts in the motor to cancel out probabilities. I do have a K20 surge protection relay on order this week. Next I'll try the camshaft position sensor. After that, I'm going to tow it to a garage.
P.s: sorry if this was a headache to read.
